Why, hello March, you came round quickly didn’t you? Even though spring should just be round the corner it actually feels like we are in the depths of Winter as the Beast from the East has the UK in its grasp. Up in Yorkshire, where we live, we have been hit, however nowhere near as bad as other parts of the country. Fingers cross the beast will blow by soon and blue skies and warmer weather will replace it. Whether you love or hate the white stuff, we hope wherever you are you are keeping warm and dry and are excited for a new month? We also hope you had a great February, whether it be eating pancakes, spending Valentine’s Day with your loved one or maybe even planning your next adventure? Our February was plodding along nicely until last week, read on to find out why…..
Our only travels this month took us to Manchester, one of, if not our favourite Northern English city. We were invited to spend the weekend with Roomzzz at their new aparthotel in the Manchester Corn Exchange, which is a beautiful building with lots of stunning modern twists. We ate, drank, danced, walked, explored and had a jolly good time, even the sun shone which considering how the weather has been the past couple of days was great timing. We’ll be writing about our stay very soon. We also hope to stay at some of the other Roomzz aparthotels soon as there are ones in Leeds, Newcastle, Chester and Nottingham too and they really offer a home from home experience.
On Sunday evening we packed the car and drove down to Luton airport and checked into an airport hotel as we had an early flight to Vilnius. I always sleep with my phone on silent yet something made me wake up at 1.00am and when I checked my phone I had numerous missed calls and voicemail from the nursing home where my nana lives. She’s had numerous seizures and been rushed to A&E. We, of course, headed back up the A1 and back home. After an extremely tough 16 months of ill-health, the latest blow has been a brain infection which almost took her from us on Monday. However, she’s a tough cookie and slowly she is making progress. She is still ‘acutely ill’ and is far from out of the woods but she is making tiny steps in the right direction. Vilnius will always be there and I’m sure we will visit sooner or later. Travel is fun, but family is everything.
Last year we visited the lovely city of Leiden in The Netherlands, we had a great time and wrote a blog post about it. We found out, out of the blue, a few weeks ago that we have been shortlisted for a Holland Press Award for the post. We are therefore heading down to London for the award ceremony at The Hoxton Holborn Hotel on the 13th March. We haven’t been down to the Big Smoke for a year, so we’re very excited. Fingers cross for the win but we are honoured to be nominated in the first place.
Gouda, The Netherlands
Also this month we are heading across to Gouda in The Netherlands to explore. We will be working with Welkom In Gouda who has put together a great itinerary of great things to do. It will only be a flying visit but we will be eating all the cheese and stroopwafels we can. We’re also keeping our fingers crossed for nice weather so we can wander around on foot. Don’t forget to follow along on social media, especially Twitter and Insta Stories 🙂
We will be heading to the lovely North Yorkshire town of Harrogate in April to spend a couple of nights at a newly opened cottage right in the town. We will be using the opportunity to relax, cook, chat, explore the local area and of course pay a visit to Bettys for afternoon tea.
Genoa, Portofino & Cinque Terre
As I am obsessed with Skyscanner as soon as I see great value flights for dates that we can fly, I snap them up. Therefore, when I saw £50 return flight to Genoa in October it was a no-brainer. Cinque Terre is somewhere we have wanted to visit for years, so we are really looking forward to taking the trip.
Lake District, England
Every year Mr ESLT and I take a weekend to spend some quality time together, book a hot tub lodge , drink a lot of vodka and switch off. This year we will be heading to the Lake District at the end of November. We love the Lake District and the log cabin we have booked looks amazing, roll on November.
