Happy December folks, it’s officially the month of Christmas which for us means eating (and drinking) to excess, loads of parties, novelty jumpers, presents, cosy nights and decorating the tree and we cannot wait. We are not ones for celebrating Christmas in November as we know many are, each to their own folks, each to their own. Instead, November saw us embracing the late autumn/early winter weather and enjoying travel closer to home before embarking on a winter sun holiday, something we have never really taken before. Read on to find out more…
Yorkshire Dales, England
The first trip we took this month was to a lovely log cabin in the Yorkshire Dales and we were lucky enough to have amazing weather – bright and sunny which in November in England is certainly not the norm. At least once a year, usually in the winter, we love nothing more than packing the car up with yummy food and drink and heading out to the Dales for alovely long weekend of doing what we want, when we want. Sometimes that involves hunting down castles and other attractions and other times it involves jumping in the hot tub until we are human prunes. This year saw a mixture of the two. We had a lovely weekend and are even tempted to book next years already!
Abu Dhabi, UAE
This time last year we were in Iceland, possibly the coldest place we have ever visited. We did indeed love it and would return in a heartbeat, however, it reaffirmed that we are not cold weather people. Therefore this year instead of digging out the thermals we chucked our swimwear in a case and headed to Abu Dhabi for a week of chilling out and basking in the sun, in fact, we are here now. Having only been here 24 hours so far we have not seen further than the hotel, which is amazing may I add. However, we have loads planned for the rest of our trip and we will be writing about it all very soon – stay tuned.
This month saw us head to Leeds to see one of Mr ESLT’s favourite bands of the moment – Royal Blood. They were awesome! We almost missed the first song as we were too busy having fun at Leeds Christmas Market, yes I know I said we didn’t celebrate Christmas in November but Leeds Christmas market is great and we couldn’t pass up visiting whilst in the city.
Meeting Up With Blogging Buds
One of the great things about blogging is making great friends along the way. They are the guys and gals that you can rely on to also take photos of their food before digging in 🙂 and this month I had the pleasure of meeting up with two of the gorgeous girls I spent time with in Ghent with back at the beginning of November with Visit Flanders. Firstly, I met up with the lovely Lavina from The Continent Hopat the above mentioned Leeds Christmas market and had a lovely catch up and I also met up with the amazing Emma from Adventures of a London Kiwiin Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire and enjoyed fish and chips and lashings of tea.
Rotterdam, The Netherlands
The second Sunday of the month will see me head to Rotterdam for the day with friends for the 7th time. It will, no doubt, involve a lot of food drinks and giggles, especially at the Christmas market.
Mid-December will see us both head to Frankfurt with a couple of friends and their little girl to fully enjoy a traditional German Market. At this time of the year is there really anything better?
For New Year we will be heading to Basel for 5 days to enjoy a lot of sightseeing and seeing how the Swiss ring in the New Year. Having never been to Switzerland before it will also give us to tick country number 71 off our list.
November saw Mr ESLT book my 2018 birthday trip. I had been hinting at returning to Italy next year, therefore when he booked us a trip to Turin I was over the moon. I’m already getting excited about pizza, pasta and Peroni.
I also booked Mr ESLT’s 2018 birthday trip to Boston. He has wanted to visit Martha’s Vineyard for as long as I can remember as he is the world’s biggest Jaws fan and that’s where a lot of it was filmed so we will be tieing it into our trip to Boston next September
