June 2017 – Monthly Round Up

June 2017 – Monthly Round Up

Did you have a great June? Have you been on your summer holiday yet? We had the best June, in fact I could not have had a better one as we jetted off on the 1st June to the West Coast of America for most of the month. We had a lot of adventure and a lot of (too much) food. Whilst we were away, England basked in a heat wave however since we have been back, it seems to have done nothing but rain – great! Fingers crossed the weather perks up again as we have a whole six weeks before our next trip. But in the meantime we have a lot of photos to wade through and a lot of blog posts to write and here is a brief round-up of what we go up to in June.

San Francisco

San Francisco, USA

The first stop on our West Coast road trip was San Francisco and we instantly feel in love. We spent a lot of time wandering the streets and using the Big Bus Tours hop on, hop off bus to explore the different neighbourhoods in the city. We also took the ferry across to Alcatraz, crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to visit neighbouring Sausalito and took a wine tasting tour with Green Dream Tours through Sonoma and Napa. We had a great few days there and we really did leave a piece of our hearts.

Yosemite, USA

We then headed inland and our next stop was Yosemite, one of the places I was most looking forward to visiting on this trip, and it certainly did not disappoint. We glamped close to the entrance to the park and therefore got there nice and early to make the most of the day. The scenery was phenomenal and somewhere I would love to visit again and would certainly recommend to anyone visiting California.

Pacific Coast Highway

Pacific Coast Highway, USA

Driving the Pacific Coast Highway in a Mustang had been on Mr ESLT’s bucket list for so long and I’m so pleased that he got the opportunity to tick it off. Even though a section of the road is closed off due to a recent landslide (from Big Sur to Ragged Point) we drove as far as we could at both sides of it stopping over night at towns including Monterey, Cambria, Pismo Beach and Solvang, before ending our trip in Santa Monica. The coastline was breath-taking and there were plenty of pull in points to take photographs along the way.

Los Angeles

Universal Studies, Hollywood, LA

We spent one evening in Santa Monica which gave us the perfect opportunity to chill out on the beach and wander down the pier before heading over to West Hollywood the next day. Whilst in LA we did the usual things – visit the Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Sign, Beverly Hills etc. We also spent a day at Universal Studios Hollywood, which if I’m being honest could have been the highlight of our trip, together with getting tickets to watch an episode of The Late Late Show with James Cordon being filmed followed by a feast at the Los Angeles Farmers Market.

San Diego

La Jolla, San Diego, USA

Having left the car back in Santa Monica we jumped on the Surfliner train and headed further down the coast to the magnificent San Diego. From the second we arrived in San Diego we felt at home. We stayed in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter which was, in our opinion, the perfect location for us as it has plenty of bars and restaurants. Whilst in San Diego we also took a trip to La Jolla with San Diego Trolley Tours, giving us the chance to relax on our 6th Wedding Anniversary in such a beautiful little place.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas, USA
The last stop on our tour was Las Vegas. We jumped on a plane from San Diego and headed to where felt like the hottest place on the planet. With temperatures topping 50 degrees it was hard work doing anything outside the air-conditioned sanctuary of the hotels and shops. Luckily we have been to Vegas before so didn’t feel like we were missing out. Apart from chilling out in the pool and drinking frozen cocktails, we did visit the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum – both great places to visit and totally underrated.

Upcoming Travels

After a month away, July is all about spending time with friends and family and that is just what we plan to do. The furthest I will venture this month is Manchester, actually twice – once for work which doesn’t count and the second time I’ll be meeting one of my best friends there to indulge in one or two cocktails! So please send recommendations my way.

Travel Planning

Nuremberg, Germany

Even though we have Luxembourg to look forward to in September which was supposed to be for Mr ESLT’s belated birthday I couldn’t resist booking somewhere for his actual birthday in August too. I was trying to keep it a secret but it turns out I couldn’t and I blurted out that we were heading to Nuremberg after only three days (I’m rubbish I know). He seemed pretty chuffed though as we both love Germany, especially the food and beer!

We were in Cali for 18 days in May. We were saddened by the Big Sur landslides as well, but made the most of it and really enjoyed both the northing Coast, SF, Monterey, and the interior agricultural views of 101! I wanted to stay so much longer. Cali is so beautiful. Looks like you enjoyed so much of the same things we did! Yosemite was a dream come true and I definitely want to go back for a much longer visit!
