September 2018 – Monthly Round Up

September 2018 – Monthly Round Up

The heating is on, X Factor has started and the nights are getting darker. That can only mean one thing – winter is coming. The last three months of the year are going to be tough as we have no winter sun trips planned. However, we can’t complain too much as our summer was jam-packed of sunny adventures. How was your September? Ours was pretty lovely and flew by in a blur. We spent a week on our travels with the rest of the time buying furniture for our extension which is now piling up nicely in our spare bedroom, even though the build isn’t starting until the end of October – I do like to be prepared. We have also been getting excited about our upcoming trips and planning new ones. Here’s to a great October.

Travels

This month we headed to Germany and Austria to celebrate Mr ESLT’s birthday. My cousin Hannah also joined us. It was actually her birthday while we were away, making it a double celebration.

Munich, Germany

Mr ESLT in Munich, Germany

The first stop on our trip was Munich. Mr ESLT visited Munich with his friends a few years ago to celebrate his 40th birthday. Needless to say, he cannot remember much of it (tut!). And as this was my first time in the city we were determined to see as much of it as possible. Therefore, we booked hop on hop off bus tickets, a beer tour and a walking tour. Basically, we did not stop exploring the whole time we were there. We even squeezed in a trip to both Linderhof and Neuschwanstein Castles and also the nearby cute town of Oberammergau. Unfortunately, we missed Oktoberfest by a week but still took the opportunity to drink lots of local beer and eat (too many) pretzels and sausages. We’d love to head back to actually celebrate Oktoberfest one year if possible.

Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg, Austria

Next up was Salzburg. Just two hours away from Munich, it made sense to tie the two cities into one trip. As soon as we arrived we fell in love with the fairytale city. We took a boat ride along the Salzach river, a hop on hop off tour around the city and a trip up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress looking the city. The weather was fantastic which also meant a lot of al fresco dining. One place I have always wanted to visit was Hallstatt. As it is easy to visit from Salzburg, we booked a trip and spent a few hours there. It was just as dreamy as I had imagined and I would recommend a visit to anyone who is visiting the area. It was our first visit to Austria and if the rest of the country is as beautiful as Salzburg and Hallstatt, we’d love to return as soon as possible.

Upcoming Travels

Airplane

Kingfisher Lakes, Yorkshire, England

The first trip of the month is actually not far from home. We’re heading to Kingfisher Lakes glamping site which is in Brandesburton, East Yorkshire. We love glamping and can’t wait to pull on our walking boots and get back to nature but with the added luxury of a double bed. Fingers crossed the weather is on our side as I have have been daydreaming about toasting marshmallows since we confirmed the trip.

Genoa, Portofino & Cinque Terre, Italy

Next up we are heading back to our favourite country in the world – Italy. This time we will be visiting Genoa, Portofino and somewhere we have wanted to visit for a really long time – Cinque Terre. Mr ESLT works with a couple of guys from Genoa, therefore we have a list as long as our arm of places to visit and eat. We can’t wait to visit the places recommended by locals and also a bit of October sunshine.

Weimar, Dessau & Berlin, Germany

I then have a day to unpack and repack as I head to Weimar, Germany for 5 days to the Travel Destination Incoming and Brand Summit 2018 with the German National Tourist Office. The summit will focus on 100 years of Bauhaus. As a lover of architecture, I am super excited to learn more about the movement and visit some amazing places to see some great examples including Dessau and Berlin.

Travel Planning

Planning Adventures?

Nice, France & Monaco

A trip for New Year has been on, then off again, then on again, then off again. All due to not being able to find suitable flights and then finding out that the ferry we wanted to get to The Netherlands does not run on the day we wanted. However, we have finally booked flights (hallelujah!). Therefore, we will be welcoming in 2019 in Nice with a side trip to Monaco. If you have any tips or recommendations for things to do or see or any great restaurants, please send them our way.

New York, USA

Because I love New York, I cannot help but plan for our trip, which isn’t until mid-January. So far we have brunch and afternoon tea reservations, walking tours of Little Italy, Chinatown and SoHo booked. Together with a tour of the Brooklyn Brewery and tickets to see Mean Girls. When we visited New York last January, the weather was fantastic, yes it was cold but the sky was blue. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the same next year. Times Square I am ready for you.
