Well hasn’t April being the strangest of months from snow to a heatwave and everything in between. Jumpers one day, vests the next, deciding what to wear on a daily basis has been a struggle. But with that being said it has actually been nice to see the sun and fingers crossed we are in for a great sunny summer here in England. April has also been a strange one for us as we have not left the country, which on one hand has sucked however it has been nice not being on a flying tin can. And the reason – we are having our bathrooms renovated (how very adult!) We’ve had both our en-suite and the family bathroom ripped out and slowly but surely they are now taking shape – fingers crossed they look amazing when they are finished (I’m sure they will). Therefore, we stayed closer to home this month to ensure we were on hand should we be needed and here’s what we got up to……
This month has been all about staycations. In fact, we took three back to back. We love road trips and we had the perfect week exploring Yorkshire and staying at three very different yet amazing properties.
The HIDEOUT Hotel, Hull, England
The first was the HIDEOUT Hotel in our hometown of Hull, East Yorkshire. We had a lovely one night stay at this fantastic and uber contemporary aparthotel right in the centre of the Old Town area. It was the perfect base for us to explore and be tourists in our own city and super value for money to boot. Unfortunately, for us, it was a flying visit but if you are looking for somewhere reasonably priced, especially for the quality and standard of accommodation in Hull city centre then we cannot recommend the HIDEOUT highly enough.
Artists’ Corner (Artists’ Cottages), Harrogate, England
Next up we drove through to the beautiful market town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire to the newly renovated Artists’ Corner which is one of five properties which make up Artist Cottages a portfolio of holiday lets. A lovely holiday home located a mere 15 minutes walk from the centre of the town was our home for two nights. It was the perfect place to relax and chill out, catch up on our favourite Netflix shows and cook homemade meals. We did, of course, explore Harrogate and paid a visit to the world famous Bettys for a yummy afternoon tea.
The Devonshire Arms, North Yorkshire Dales, England
Our last staycation was at the divine Devonshire Arms which is located in the Yorkshire Dales on the Bolton Abbey estate. We couldn’t have asked for a more lovely stay. Our room was massive, the on-site spa was perfect and the food was simply out of this world. Seriously, if you are looking for a relaxing night, or longer, away in the Yorkshire Dales, this is the place. We did not want to leave. It was easy to see why it is such a popular and highly regarded hotel. It was such a great place to end our week-long road trip around Yorkshire. It was a shame the weather wasn’t great as the grounds are lovely and we would have liked the opportunity to wander around them more than we did.

Mr ESLT and I always treat the other to travel as a birthday present and this month it’s my birthday so Mr ESLTis flying me off to Turin in Italy for four days and I CANNOT wait. The weather looks like it’s going to be nice and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it is going to be as I have high hopes of alfresco pizza and wine! We love Italy and it is one of our favourite countries. This will be our seventh visit, however, our first visit t Turing so we are super excited to explore and see what the city has to offer.
Also, this month we will be heading north of the border to Edinburgh, Scotland. We will be staying at the ridiculously beautiful Nira Caledonia which is a 4* boutique hotel located in the heart of the city centre. We have visited Edinburgh together but it was a very long time ago and we visited for the rugby which meant sightseeing was not at the top of our to-do list. However, this time we will be full on tourists, hunting down the best things to do, eat and drink. If you have any tips/ recommendations/suggestions please send them our way.
This month we have booked our New Year trip, yes prices are hiked but the fact that I don’t have to take any leave makes a New Year break too good to pass up. Therefore we will be seeing in 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal. I have never been to Portugal before, so I’m very excited to visit a new country. Having spent the past two New Years in Berlin, Germany and Basel, Switzerland we are hoping to be able to leave our hats, scarves and gloves at home.
