February 2017 – Monthly Round Up

February 2017 – Monthly Round Up

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it felt sooo long. I’ll be honest between working, visiting my nana who is currently in rehab following a stroke late last year and renovating our house, there hasn’t really been a spare minute. As always though the blog has been a great way to escape the pressures of ‘real life’. It looks like the hard work has paid off too as the stats are showing that the blog in February received more views during the month than any other month before! Every month, I aim to beat the last and that has been happening over the past 8 months or so, but February smashed it out of the park. So thank you to each and every one of you who takes the time to have a little read, it means the world 🙂

Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg, Germany

Mr ESLT and I are not ones for spontaneous trips but we took one this month. With Ryanair offering £9.99 flights, we couldn’t resist a cheeky trip. We chose Hamburg in Germany for Valentine’s day. Having visited Dusseldorf, Cologne, Berlin and Munich before we were looking forward to seeing what Hamburg had to offer. I am in the process of writing about our time there and I aim to publish it ASAP.

We were invited to visit The Vicarage Freehouse & Rooms in Cranage, Cheshire for an evening in one of their new luxury suites. We loved our stay and seriously cannot think of one thing that we didn’t like about it. It was right up our street – a pub, serving amazing food and luxurious rooms – what’s not to love!

Russian Visa Application

We landed from Hamburg at Manchester airport and drove straight to the Russian Visa Application Centre in central Manchester. We hope to visit, visa pending, St Petersburg in Russia for a long weekend at the end of April. We filled in the necessary paperwork, took our photographs with us and had our fingerprints taken. The helpful advisor didn’t see a problem with anything but obviously the final decision is not his. Our passports had to be forwarded to the Russian Embassy in London and we are just waiting to get them back. An attempted delivery was made on Tuesday but unfortunately we were both at work, so delivery has been rescheduled for today – fingers crossed we have been approved and we can make our trip! Having gone through the process, I’m going to write a post about it to hopefully help others going through the same.

Blogging Awards

Having not received any blogging award nominations for months, possibly even years, we’ve now received two in one month. Big flashy blogger awards are ace, well I say they’re ace – we’ve never actually won one 🙂 but the ones that come from other bloggers are really special, being considered worthy by our peers is lovely and really gives us a boost. Therefore I would like to thank:

Megan from Suitcase Envy for nominating us for The Versatile Blogger Award

Ester from Travelling Around The World for nominating us for The Blogger Recognition Award

Upcoming Travels

London, England

This weekend we’re heading down to London with our best friends – Samm from The Inspiration Highway and her husband. Luckily for us the train journey is direct and only takes 2 and 1/2 hours so we’re setting off straight from work on Friday and coming back Sunday lunch. We love visiting London, even as a Brit, there really isn’t anywhere quite like London it and I can understand why it appeals to so many people. With a meal at a Japanese restaurant, a visit to Madame Tussauds and watching School of Rock in the West End on the cards, it looks like it’s going to be a good one!

Utrecht, The Netherlands

Having visited Amsterdam and Rotterdam more times then we can count, we have decided to give another city in The Netherlands a try and this time it’s Utrecht. We have heard some great stories about how beautiful it is. We very excited to see it for ourselves, drink the beer and eat all the food. We are taking the ferry from our hometown across the North Sea which means no scary airplane journey for me (yes!).

Travel Planning

With free time being limited in February we haven’t really planned much beyond this month. We do however have another little trip to London planned during the second week of April when we will be staying at and reviewing 9 Hertford Street Serviced Apartments in Mayfair. If you have any recommendations for great restaurants or things to do in the area please drop us a line. Although the apartment look so lovely, we may not actually leave it once we arrive.

Also, our June month long California (and Las Vegas) road trip is getting closer, so we really should start planning it a bit more. Again any recommendations welcome!

Travel Blogger Interviews

This month we featured interviews from the following fantastic travel bloggers:-

Hometown Tour Guide

This month’s Hometown Tour Guide was the lovely Seetal from Savla Faire , read all about her home town of Leicester and all the amazing things it has to offer.

We are always on the look out for Travel Bloggers who would like to take part in our Travel Interview or Hometown Tour Guide Series, if you fit the bill and would like to feature please drop us a line – eatsleeplovetravel@gmail.com

Until next month……..safe travels 🙂
