Finally, it’s February! Seriously how long was January? Even though we were busy it seemed to drag on so much. Going back to work after the long Christmas break was very difficult, especially for Mr ESLT who’d had nearly a month off. Needless to say, we both soon got back into the swing of things and it actually felt like we’d had no time off at all (grrr). The weather in England hasn’t actually been that bad considering it was January, however it has still got us wanting some sunshine…..roll on summer, we’ve got a great one planned already. This month we took a couple of trips in England and visited a new country, the first of 5 this year.
Noelle’s Cottages, Pickering, England
Our first trip of the year was to The Barn a beautiful barn conversation which one of three properties which make up Noelle’s Cottages. We visited friends in Pickering, North Yorkshire and had the pleasure of staying here, it was like something from Grand Designs. It was the perfect place to stay, had a great time and cannot recommend it highly enough if you are looking for excellent self-catering accommodation in North Yorkshire.
Lake District, England
Our next trip was to the award-winning Ees Wyke Country House in the Lake District. The Lake District is beautiful at any time of the year and the winter colours were out in full force. We didn’t have much time at the hotel, which was a shame as it was a very relaxing place, especially as we were the only people staying there at the time, meaning we could chill out in front of the open fire without having to share it with anyone. Also, the food, both the evening meal and breakfast, were insanely good.
Our only foreign jaunt in January was to Poland. It was a new country for us and having now returned I can’t believe we hadn’t visited sooner. We visited Gdansk and even though it was freezing it was phenomenal and we can’t wait to explore more of Poland as soon as possible with Krakow, Poznan and Warsaw high on the list. Over the next week or so I will be writing up our Gdansk post, so stay tuned!
At the end of the month, we are heading to country 73 – Lithuania. We will be staying in Vilnius for four days and can’t wait to see what the city has to offer. We have been reading blog posts galore to pick up tips and recommendations to ensure we see, do and eat all the best stuff. If you have any blog posts please feel free to leave links in the comments section below.
Back in November, I booked flights to Boston in the US for September to celebrate Mr. ESLT’s birthday. However last week the airline I booked them with informed me that they had been cancelled (boooo!). Unfortunately, replacement flights with another airline were just too expensive for me. Therefore, I opted for a full refund and set about trying to find another break suitable for the main man’s big day.
Bavaria, Germany & Salzburg, Austria
We love Germany, especially Bavaria, therefore Munich was the first place to jump out at me when I started looking for somewhere other than Boston and then I got a bit carried away and ended up booking flights into Munich and a week later out of Salzburg, Austria which will be country 76 for us. Mr ESLT has been to Munich before however, it was for his 40th with friends so he can’t actually remember much of it. I have planned anything in detail yet but can’t wait to get cracking!
