Things To Consider When Travelling With Glasses

Travelling With Glasses

If you plan on having a holiday, especially one with lots of physical activity, you might be wondering about the pros and cons of travelling with glasses. Especially if your eyesight isn’t that ‘bad’, meaning you only wear them for certain things. While there may be some activities that you don’t want, or need, your glasses for, there may be a variety of other aspects that require the use of improved vision. By considering the best ways to look after your glasses when away from home, you can wear them safely and still enjoy your travels.

What If They Get Bent?

One of the biggest factors that might sway you to not take your glasses with you on your travels is the fear of them getting bent, or even broken. You can of course take steps to prevent this from occurring in the first place. This includes not keeping them in your pocket, avoiding sitting on them, and even storing them in their designated case. However, you can also think about solutions should the worse happen. By learning how to fix bent glasses, no matter the material of the frame, you can put yourself in a position where these incidents don’t need to cause you to panic. Instead, they can be resolved quickly.

What If They Get Stolen?

Another fear that people might have when travelling with glasses is that they will get lost or stolen. Keeping them with you, in a securely fastened bag where zips and openings are not easily accessed, can be a good solution. If you plan to sleep in a tent or out under the stars, it can be a bit more difficult to ensure security instead of using a hotel. However, it can be done. There are ways to secure a tent when you are not inside it. You can use good quality locks on the zip or even an alarm within the tent itself, that can offer a bit more protection to your belongings, including your glasses.

What About Sunglasses? Can’t I Just Buy Them At The Destination?

When you also use prescription sunglasses, they have been made especially for your eyesight needs. In addition to this, your pair of sunglasses will most likely have a high level of UV filtration. This can protect your eyes from the sunlight. Even though many stores might sell sunglasses at your destination, there is no guarantee that these will have the same level of protection. Buying low quality, or cheap, sunglasses simply to use for the duration of your holiday can actually damage the eyes, as you may not be aware of the harmful rays that are getting through their coating.

Some aspects of your travel, such as hiring a car, may also require the use of your glasses. So you don’t want to leave them at home. On top of this, you may find the entire experience that much more enjoyable when you can see the sights clearly, rather than trying to distinguish between blurs.
