Growing up on the East Coast of England meant trips to the seaside on a regular basis. I have vivid memories of both my parents and my grandparents taking me to the beautiful beaches in East Yorkshire regardless of the weather. Some days it would be shorts and t-shirts, some days it would be wellies and raincoats. But to me, it didn’t matter, as long as was armed with my bucket and spade and had plenty of space to run around, I was in my element. Plus, there was always the possibility of ice cream at the end of the day – a double win.
My love of trips to the coast has stayed with me and I love nothing more than a long walk along the beach with the (often strong) wind in my face. Also, now we have children, days out at the beach have become a regular activity for us, again regardless of the weather. And as we still live in East Yorkshire, our children get to visit the places we did when we were little. It’s an easy win for us as parents, as our kids love nothing more than building sandcastles and finding shells. Barmston Beach

A quiet beautiful beach that is slightly pebbly. It is perfect if you want to get away from it all and take a long uninterrupted walk. Barmston Beach is also a year-round dog-friendly beach.
Bridlington North Beach
Address: Princess Mary Promenade, Bridlington, East Yorkshire, Bridlington YO15 2PL
The quieter of the two beaches in Bridlington (However, still popular, especially in summer). Easy access from the promenade with plenty of seating and toilet facilities. Close to the bustling town centre.
Bridlington South Beach
Address: South Marine Drive, Bridlington YO15 3JW
This sandy beach can be found to the south of Bridlington Spa and Bridlington Harbour (the quieter side of town). There are a number of local cafes and places to grab an ice cream. No Dogs allowed 1st May – 30th September.
Fraisthorpe Beach
Address: Fraisthorpe, YO15 3QU
This flat sandy beach is easily accessible, dog friendly, and popular with Windsurfers. It’s a quiet beach with no amenities barring the Cowshed cafe and toilet block. Parking fees apply year-round.
Hornsea Beach
Address: Marine Drive, Hornsea HU18 1PZ England
Hornsea beach is a mixture of sand and shingle. It is located in a small seaside town. There are a number of shops and cafes to grab fish and chips and ice cream together with amusement arcades.
Kilnsea Beach
Address: Kilnsea, HU12 0UB
Kilnsea beach is a large ‘get away from it all’ beach, making it popular with dog walkers and birdwatchers. Pay and display car park together with a toilet block. No other amenities are available.
Mappleton Beach
Address: Mappleton, Hornsea HU18 1XX
This quiet stoney beach is a great one to visit if you or any member of your family loves fossil hunting. It is popular with dog walkers. However, has few amenities (just a toilet block). Free parking.
Selwicks Bay Beach
Address: Lighthouse Road, Flamborough, YO15 1AP
This beautiful beach at the base of Flamborough Head is a favourite with families. It is popular, however still quiet compared to nearby beaches. Lots of caves and inlets to explore when the tide is out.
Thornwick Bay
Address: North Marine Road, Flamborough, YO15 1AU
This small bay on the north coast of Flamborough Head is rocky and climb up and down is quite tricky especially for kids. However, the views are magnificent. Again there are caves to explore.
Withernsea Beach
Address: Withernsea, HU19 2HT
The sand and shingle beach spans for miles. Withernsea is a popular seaside resort, especially during the summer. Therefore, it has everything you would expect from a seaside town – ice cream anyone?
