Have you ever been asked the question why do you travel? Most people will often answer “to find ourselves’ or ‘to escape the stresses of everyday life’ etc. But we’re asking the question literally – why do you travel? Everyone loves a good holiday or even a cheeky night away in a hotel where relaxation is key, I know for a fact we do. However, sometimes we need or have to travel because of necessity, obligation or commitment, therefore a real travel moment.
Over the years we have travelled for friend’s weddings and their children’s christenings, to visit family, for business trips and more recently a college reunion. All of which required a comfortable hotel with good facilities, yet one that doesn’t break the bank because in reality when travelling for an event or occasion you don’t spend that long actually in the hotel.
For our most recent travel moment, we stayed at the Hampton by Hilton in York, North Yorkshire. Having never stayed at a Hampton by Hilton before, we really did not know what to expect. However, we were more than pleasantly surprised. Even though it is obviously a member of the Hilton family, we thought it would be very much a budget hotel with no bells or whistles – we were very wrong.
The first thing we loved about this particular hotel, apart from the extremely friendly welcome we received from the receptionist, was its central location, which was perfect as we were meeting people in the city centre. Therefore, we did not have far to walk to meet them. However, in reality, there was nothing we could really fault about the hotel it had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Our room had everything we needed for our visit. We had a family room which meant we had a double bed and sofa which could be turned into a sofa bed, obviously, we had no need for this, but it’s something to bear in mind if travelling with friends and you want to cut down on hotel costs by sharing or if travelling with family.
It was also very brightly decorated, had a blackout blind which is vital for Mr ESLT as a light sleeper, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, although we didn’t have time to watch it, and the all-important tea and coffee making facilities – we’ve got to have a caffeine kick first thing in the morning. Even the ensuite shower room provided complimentary shower gel and hand wash.
Hotel Bar & Resturant
Something that is important to us is a hotel bar, whether it is for a quick drink before we head out or a swift nightcap when we return. The Hampton by Hilton York’s bar is open 24 hours, therefore we were able to indulge both before and after we met friends in the city centre. As with the rest of the hotel, the bar and restaurant area is brightly decorated with modern furniture.
We even grabbed a bite to eat whilst we were there from their bar menu. Mr ESLT opted for gammon and I chose a cheeseburger both of which were served with chips. The menu had a good selection to choose from including pasta and pizzas, which can be ordered all night long after the kitchen closes. Perfect if you fancy a midnight snack.
Even breakfast was included in the room rate. Therefore, the next morning when our heads were slightly sore we took full advantage of the large selection of food on offer including cereals, fruits and pastries together with hot options including eggs, sausage, bacon and beans. It was the perfect way to round off a great stay and set us up for our journey home.
Overall impression & Your Chance To Stay A Night
I cannot fault the Hampton by Hilton, for a budget-friendly hotel, it offered a lot more than we had initially expected and we would definitely stay in another one elsewhere in the world. With more than 2,345 properties and 238,000 rooms in 21 countries and territories, there are plenty to choose from.
In fact, you have the chance to win a Hampton by Hilton BMG voucher to be redeemed for a one night stay at a Hampton by Hilton property.
