When summer arrives it means having a tub of ice cream in the freezer is a must. Also, summer is the perfect time of year for big fat British strawberries. They also so happen to be Junior ESLT’s favourite fruit. Therefore, we recently decided to mix the two together an make the perfect summer treat that all the family could enjoy – Salted Caramel & Strawberry Sundaes. We opted for salted caramel dairy-free ice cream from Ciao Gusto Italian Deli at Ocado.
We have our food delivered every week. Having two small children means trips to the supermarket are now just something that is more hassle than it’s worth. Therefore being able to order the ingredients from the Ciao Gusto Italian Deli and having them delivered to your day, makes make these sundaes super easy. Together with the ice cream and sauce, we found over 30 of Italy’s most popular brands many of which are still owned and run by the same families who established them – some as far back as in the 1800s. Which was a great find for us as Italy is our favourite country.
As we’re not vegans and we don’t have dairy intolerances, we’ve never tried vegan ice cream before. However, this one is just as creamy and delicious as any dairy-filled ice cream we’ve ever eaten. The Valsoia authentic Italian ice cream loaded with caramel bits went down a storm at ESLT HQ especially when paired with the tangy sweetness of fresh strawberries and Fabbri wild strawberry syrup. During August if you buy a Valsoia gelato and a Fabbri syrup from Ciao Gusto Italian Deli, you get 20% which I’m sure you’ll agree will make the sundaes taste even sweeter.

Salted Caramel and Strawberry Sundae Recipe
Ingredients
- Valsoia authentic salted caramel Italian ice cream
- Fabbri wild strawberry syrup
- Fresh British strawberries
- Lindt salted caramel chocolate
- Président whipped cream
- Cadbury Flake
STEP 1

Grab a couple of sundae glasses if you have them, if not any glass or bowl will do – after all, it’s all about the scrumminess of the ingredients, not what they come in. Then squirt the Fabbi wild strawberry syrup around the side of the sundae glass and stand upright, allowing the syrup to drip down the sides towards the bottom of the glass.
STEP 2

Chop some fresh strawberries (4/6) per sundae into small pieces – use more or less depending on who is eating the sundae and how much they love strawberries. Put half the chopped strawberries in the bottom of the sundae glass. Save the other half for later.
STEP 3

Put a spoon or scoop (if you have an ice cream scoop of course) of ice cream on top of the strawberries. Then put the other half of the chopped strawberries on top before adding another spoon or scoop of ice cream. I only put one scoop in for Junior ESLT, which was plenty for her.
STEP 4

Squirt whipped cream on the top, forming a peak if possible. Try to avoid squirting it directly into your mouth – tough I know but necessary if you want enough to top your sundaes.
STEP 5

Top with a big squirt of Fabbi wild strawberry syrup. Then grate Lindt Salted Caramel chocolate over the top. Decorate with a chocolate flake (vital when it comes to ice cream) and garnish with a sliced strawberry.
STEP 6

Serve and enjoy!
Our salted caramel & strawberry sundaes are now a firm favourite and Junior ESLT has already asked for it again. We hope you love it as much as we did!
