Ways To Celebrate Birthdays During Lockdown

Celebrating Your Birthday During Lockdown

I recently celebrated my birthday. Normally the celebration of the day I was brought into this world is spent either with family and friends or in a far-flung country. Not this year. This year I had to celebrate my birthday during lockdown, which if you haven’t already maybe the likelihood for you too? And if not you, it’s more than likely you will celebrate other people’s birthdays during lockdown.

The only good thing about not being able to head to the pub, have a meal at my favourite restaurant or jump on a plane is the fact that this year it was my first birthday as a mummy. Therefore regardless of where in the world I celebrated it, as long as I had my girls (and obviously Mr ESLT) with me, it would have been perfect regardless.

However, Mr ESLT (and of course the girls) went above and beyond. They left me feeling like the luckiest person in the world. Therefore based on how I spent my birthday together with some additional options here are some from ways to celebrate birthdays during lockdown.

Create A Party Playlist

One of the easiest things you could do, especially if you have Apple Music/, Spotify etc is to create a playlist. Why not put the birthday guy or gals favourite songs from their favourite bands on it? Or create a playlist from a great period in your lives together. This could be a messy week in Ibiza, a weekend at Glastonbury or even a night out in Leeds? Songs are proven to evoke memories. So why not give the birthday gift of reliving good times to your family member/friend.

Have A Virtual Party

Before lockdown had anyone even heard of Zoom? I hadn’t and now I use it on an almost daily basis. Fear not if Zoom is not your thing. Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger are also great apps to use to stay connected in these new times of social distancing. Granted it is not the same as actually being together, but this is the new normal we have to deal with. Therefore why not get your glad rags on, grab a bottle (or two) and some snacks and have a virtual party for the birthday boy/girl.

Send Personalised Cards/Presents

I’ve always been a fan of companies such as Moonpig and Funky Pigeon. Not only can you personalise the cards, but they will also send it directly to the recipient. This service is great at the best of times as you are able to do it from the comfort of your computer. Even more so now. As a recipient, I love receiving personalised cards and also personalised presents. It shows that people are thinking of me and actually know me. Plus they are more often than not nice momentos to keep.

Let Them Eat Cake

What’s a birthday without cake? Whether it’s a sponge, gluten-free, vegan or even a made from cheese one. It’s a time honoured tradition when it comes to celebrating birthdays. Therefore, if you want to make the birthday person smile, why not let them eat cake? If you are a Mary Berry in the making you could knock one up and leave it as a doorstep delivery. Failing that you could get a local baker to make and deliver one or even opt for a handy letterbox cake.

Buy A Present To Enjoy Following Lockdown

One of the nicest presents I received for my recent birthday was a gift voucher for afternoon tea for two at a local cafe. It is valid for 6 months following the cafe reopening (whenever that maybe). Granted I have to wait to indulge in scones and cream, however, the gift voucher is a way of supporting local businesses during these times when they can operate and it also gives the recipient something nice to look forward to once things return to normal (or as close to normal as possible).
