6 weeks into lockdown and for a number of people it is becoming tough(er). For some, it’s health reasons others it’s financial and for many, it’s the lack of social interaction with others. If you are a social butterfly, having your wings clipped in such a sudden and drastic way may have had a detrimental effect on your mental health. Not being able to see family members, especially in such unusual times may be taking its toll too. Also, if you are a parent, especially a working one, trying to get through this while maintaining a level of professionalism, running a house and entertaining the kids may feel like an impossible task. Therefore it’s important to show your loved ones you care during lockdown.
There are a number of ways through acts of kindness that we can do this. Therefore, we have put together this list of 5 ways which are simple yet very effective and guaranteed to put a smile on their face.
Brighten Up Their Day
One way is by sending a lovely fresh bouquet of flowers. Moonpig sent me a beautiful bunch this week and it cheered me up to end. I love flowers, especially when they are a surprise and sent as a gift. I have used Moonpig for personalized cards for years. Yet never realised that you can order flowers and other gifts through them too. They are perfect for a number of occasions – birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day and during these unprecedented times, to show your loved ones you care during lockdown.
So if you want to Let Happiness Bloom why not send them a bunch of flowers with Moonpig. If you download the app, add the flowers and/or plants that you want to send and use the discount code APP25BLOOM you will get 25% off until the 25th of May. It is a great way to show your loved ones you care during lockdown. It’s easy for you too as it can be done quickly via your mobile phone.
Video Calls
Video calls are a great way to stay in touch with our loved ones. Even though Mr ESLT and I have both had the facility on our mobile phone to video call since it was introduced to iPhones, we have never really used it. There has never really been the need. That was until lockdown. We now use it on a daily basis. We regularly video call family members, especially grandparents in order for them to see and speak to the kids. It’s a tough time for everyone, particularly if you are close to your family and you usually see them on a regular basis.
A Simple Text
One of the most effective ways of showing your loved ones you care is by sending a text. A simple ‘how you doing?’ is often all someone needs to feel like someone cares. Whether it’s your nearest and dearest or your hairdresser that you haven’t seen (and really need) to since before lockdown began. Even though we are in lockdown for us the days pass quickly. Therefore we often get wrapped up in our own lives and problems. However, a text takes two minutes. I’m sure, no matter how busy we are, we could spare that time to check in on someone else.
A Doorstep Delivery
Proving this is done in keeping with the Government’s guidelines, a doorstep delivery is bound to put a smile on anyone’s face. I know it would mine. Obviously, we are not advocating non-essential travel, but if you live close enough to someone you love a good old knock and run (we call it knock off ginger round these parts) could make their day. It could be a simple handwritten letter, especially to family members from the kids or their favourite chocolate bar. It doesn’t have to be extravagant however it could make that person feel good about themselves and cared about.
Conference Calls
Mr ESLT and I also use conference calls/group video calling as a way to stay connected with our friends. Even though the majority of us are in the same situation – working, homeschooling and unable to leave the house for longer than 1 hour a day, we always find a lot to talk and laugh about. Therefore this allows us to maintain close friendships even from afar. It’s a great way to pick people up, especially if they have had a particularly bad day/week. It also allows us to have a break from the norm and interact with people outside of our household on a (virtual) social level.
We hope that you are doing ok and that you are staying strong in these crazy times. We don’t know when this is all going to be over, however, it’s important to remember that we are in it together. Therefore we need to ensure spirits are high (or at least as high as they can be depending on your situation).
Wash your hands and STAY SAFE!
