The idea of chartering a yacht through the pristine waters is something we endeavour to do in the near future. Mr ESLT is a seafarer by trade. He’s been a marine pilot for 20 years, prior to that, in the merchant navy for 10. Life on the open water is in his blood and something he wants to introduce our children to as soon as possible. Amalfi Coast, Italy
If you are a regular reader of our blog, you will know that Italy is our favourite country in the world. Therefore, it had to be included on the list of European sailing destinations. A route from the Bay of Naples and along the Amalfi Coast, taking in the gorgeous exclusive island of Capri and the volcanic island of Ischia along the way is definitely one of the best sailing locations in Europe.
The coastline along the Amalfi Coast is stunning and there are a number of beautiful towns and villages to visit. These include Ravello, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento amongst others. Regardless of which one(s) you decide to stop off at, you will be rewarded with amazing architecture, breathtaking views and of course mouthwatering food.
Balearic Islands, Spain
If island hopping sounds like your sort of thing then chartering a yacht around the Balearic Islands could be ideal for you. You can hop between Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, the four islands that make up the archipelago off eastern Spain. All of which are popular tourist destinations. Therefore, making the Balearic Islands a great option if you are looking for a lively getaway.
There are of course quieter seaside towns and villages on all of the islands. Perfect if hustle and bustle is not your thing. The Balearic Islands are home to a number of beautiful beaches if you want a relaxing break. Together with a lot of history, delicious food and stunning sunsets, perfect for watching from your yacht.
Dalmatian Coast, Croatia
The turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea are a sight to behold and what better way to experience it for yourself than by sailing the Dalmatian Coast? From here you can visit two of Croatia’s largest cities. Dubrovnik, which is a must for all Game of Throne’s fans, together with Split, with its impressive Roman ruins. Both are popular tourist destinations and have a lot to offer their visitors.
There are also a number of islands scattered throughout the water offshore. If you are looking for glamorous nightlife then Hvar is the island for you. With its beach bars, cafes and nightclubs, this island is definitely for party animals. If you fancy a slower-paced break then islands such as Lastovo, Vis and Solta fit the bill.
French Riviera, France
When people mention the best sailing destinations in Europe, the French Riviera (Côte d’Azur) is always a place that springs to mind. Why? Because it really is one of the best waterways to charter a yacht and explore. It is the place to see and be seen. With people flocking on their vessels from all over the world each summer to admire its unrivalled luxury and beauty, this stunning coastline has a lot to offer.
The French Riviera stretches from Saint-Tropez to Menton (near the Italian border). Therefore there are a number of places to visit along the coast, where you will find a range of high-end restaurants, bars and clubs. These include Nice, Cannes, Antibes and of course Monaco, considered a playground for the rich and famous.
Ionian Islands, Greece
Another option for island hopping is the Ionian Islands. The seven largest and most popular islands are Zakynthos, Ithaca, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Paxos (Paxi) and Kythira. There are also a number of smaller and quieter islands. These are Antikythira, Antipaxi, Ereikousa, Mathraki, Othonoi, Meganisi and Strofades. Therefore making the Ionian Islands one of the most varied sailing locations in Europe.
With so many islands to choose from, there is something for everyone. From pristine beaches, hiking trails for adventurers through to ancient ruins for history buffs. However, if chilling out on your yacht is more your vibe, this is a perfect destination. The tranquil blue waters, ideal for swimming, make the ideal luxury holiday backdrop.
