From all the favoured places to get engaged being whisked away to a destination abroad hits the top spot. In a survey by jewellers F.Hinds, 2,000 Brits were asked about the ‘ideal scenarios’ in which they would like to get asked the big question. They also discussed the situations that might lead them to consider declining the proposal, instead of accepting it.
Is Proposing In Public Really A Good Idea?
Many inspiring Instagram and YouTube videos show couples get engaged in public settings in the most romantic ways. While these videos may be very heartfelt and beautiful to watch, most people in Britain (74%) would actually prefer not to be asked in public. What looks great on camera might feel a bit awkward in real life. How you propose essentially depends on your personality and of course that of your partner. Asking the love of your life to marry you will be a moment you remember no matter where it takes place.
Some people, on the other hand, don’t mind getting asked in public at all. Some even take things to a whole other level – in fact, 55% of those asked in the survey said that they wouldn’t mind getting engaged during someone else’s wedding!
Should You Get An Engagement Ring?
While an engagement ring isn’t always necessary when you propose, 17% said that they would feel let down if their partner didn’t have engagement rings ready on the big day. Just like wedding rings, engagement rings can be worn permanently, and some brides combine the two after the wedding. It can be a good idea to match the styles of the rings when choosing an engagement ring.
Destination Ideas For A Romantic Proposal
Proposing when on holiday in a beautiful destination is a popular choice with many couples. 32% of Brits would consider getting engaged this way, while 18% wouldn’t mind being proposed to at home, since they find the question more important than the actual setting.
