Mr ESLT and I have just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. Which means it has been 8 whole years since our wonderful honeymoon. For us, we wanted pure relaxation on our honeymoon, at least for most of it. We had a traditional big white wedding which took a year to plan. If you have ever planned a wedding before or are in the process of doing so, you’ll know how stressful it can be. Therefore following the stress of organising flowers, cakes, centrepieces and favours (amongst a million and one other things) we wanted a honeymoon where we could sit, relax, eat good food and basically not have to worry about anything for a couple of weeks. Making the decision of where to go was a tough one as there are of course a number of places that tick the perfect honeymoon destination box around the world.
However, the one that is a favourite for many is The Maldives. There is no wonder it always features in various/most ‘top honeymoon destination’ lists. There are a number of reasons why Maldives honeymoons are so popular and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Therefore we have put together a list of some of the top reasons.
Stunning Scenery

If private islands, miles and miles of beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and palm trees swaying gently in the breeze are your thing, then The Maldives is the place for you if you’re looking for the perfect honeymoon destination. Many people choose the stunning islands in the Indian Ocean for their honeymoon because of the unrivalled scenery. Just imagine having a picnic lunch on a secluded beach or looking out to sea from the veranda of your water villa whilst sipping a cold glass of fizz with your love by your side – bliss.
Amazing Hotels

Talking of water villas, there are a number of luxury hotels throughout The Maldives that offer them. One of which is the beautiful Anantara Kihavah which is located on the Baa Atoll on a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with luxurious villas and private infinity pools. You can enjoy the ultimate romantic dinner beneath the ocean’s surface and explore the world’s first underwater wine cellar at Sea in the in-house underwater restaurant too. So if you’re looking for your own private slice of heaven complete with personal villa host if your budget can stretch that far – look no further.
Relaxation

If like us you are looking for a relaxing honeymoon after the stress of organising your big day then The Maldives is the ideal spot. You can indulge in a spa day or simply lay on a sun lounger from dawn till dusk if you like, without moving a muscle. Unless it’s to accept another cocktail from your waiter or to swipe next page on your Kindle of course. It will give you and your new spouse the opportunity to unwind and connect as a married couple without the trials and tribulations of the real world getting in the way.
Mouthwatering Food

If you are spending a week or two on a Maldivan Island you need to pick your hotel wisely, which leads us back to our previous statement about luxury hotels. You need to research the culinary options available at your hotel as the likelihood is you will eat there all day every day. Therefore if buffets for every meal are not your thing, check out reviews, blogs and the hotel’s website to ensure the hotel you eventually opt for has some good a la carte restaurants with a wide range of dishes (both local and international) to choose from too.
Watersports Galore

You may think you want to do nothing on your honeymoon but when you get there you may realise you find it quite hard to sit still, initially anyway. Therefore your perfect honeymoon destination has to offer that something extra. Not to worry, The Maldives has a number of watersports you can take part in if you want to get your adrenalin pumping. From windsurfing to kayaking and not forgetting snorkelling and kitesurfing, amongst many others, we’re sure you will find something to take part in. If you want to of course. Just imagine the sun on your face and the sand in your hair.
