Tips For Looking and Feeling Great on Holiday

Looking and Feeling Great

With the summer holiday season fast approaching you may be planning and looking forward to a beach break. However, this is also when the feelings of self-consciousness start raising their ugly heads. Feeling self-conscious can ruin even the most special experience. And the sad truth is that many of us have been conditioned to feel self-conscious by a society that keeps reminding us that we’re never quite good enough. Our smile is never quite dazzling enough. Our body is never quite toned enough. And our wobbly bits are….well wobbly. We’re conditioned to compare ourselves to the air-brushed images of ‘perfection’ we see in adverts, fashion magazines and on the big screen and wonder why what we see in the mirror always falls short of our expectations.

When it comes to our travels, nothing saps our enjoyment like feeling self-conscious in a bikini or shorts and nothing dims the giddy thrill of being surrounded by sun and sand more than comparing yourself to other people which is a habit most of us have. The last thing we (or you) want is for your well-earned holiday to be mired by that little voice in your head that fills you with negativity and gnaws away at your enjoyment of your time away.

Therefore here some tips to silence that voice to ensure that you look and feel as great as you deserve to on holiday.

Get Some Discipline In Your Diet Prior to Flying Away

If you have some time to prepare for your holiday, a good workout and diet routine can help. If you’re anything like us you may want to lose a few pounds before you fly away. This may help with any self-confidence issues or to boost fitness levels. Especially if you plan on taking an active holiday. This will help to not only get you looking and feeling better but also make your metabolism more efficient. When your metabolism is working harder for you, you can enjoy food more knowing that it’ll be put to use in your body rather than being kept in storage.

Eat What You like

A big part of the fun when going away is the ability to enjoy new foods inspired by new cultures. Because come on, who doesn’t visit Italy and eat ALL the pizza? Don’t spend your holiday forlornly munching on kale while your travel companion(s) tuck into plates of much more appetising fare. Eat and drink what you like, you are on holiday after all.

Use a Bronzing Sunscreen

Even the most dedicated gym bunny has wobbly bits here and there. Everyone has little cellulite-y patches they’d rather weren’t quite so visible, even the most body confident of us out there we’re sure. If these are making you feel as though all eyes are on you at the beach (they aren’t) remember that bronzing sunscreens are great. Apply these and you’ll get a pleasant enhancement for your tan while still enjoying protection from the sun. Just remember to pick the relevant SPF level of protection for your skin type.

Make Sure You Feel Comfortable

Finally, wear what you want to wear, not what you feel you should have to wear. Whatever you choose just make sure that you feel comfortable in it and that you can be yourself. This will help you in your quest to looking and feeling great. There’s nothing more appealing than letting your true personality shine through.

    Hi
I have read your post and as a life coach i feel a little uneasy with your advice.
It is more important that we concern ourselves with our self confidence rather than feel we have to lose weight, tan etc to conform to others expectations.
I think deep down you need some support before adving others… with respect.

Hi Phil and thank you for your comment, I respectfully take it on board. Whilst I appreciate what you say about losing weight/tanning etc to conform, I believe I am also making the point that it is up to the individual especially if they do have body confidence or self-confidence issues – which many of us do. I genuinely do think it would be great if we were all at a level where we were all comfortable in our own skin all of the time, especially on holiday – I guess that’s where life coaching comes in to help us through those internal battles 🙂 But, unfortunately, we and many others aren’t at that stage therefore for us it’s not about conforming, it’s about making ourselves feel more confident. Maybe we should add a paragraph in about how life coaching and working through some stuff can boost self-confidence and make you feel great too?
