We love getting back to nature and sleeping as close to it as possible. We have done so all over the world in a range of different ways. Yet still, the debate in our house rages on – which is better camping or glamping. We stand on very different sides. Mr ESLT is an avid lover of camping, Vicky a true lover of glamping. Therefore, it can be quite tricky trying to convince the other when it comes to taking a trip. It depends how at one with the great outdoors you want to be, if at all, of course.
Camping
Traditional Camping
Mr ESLT loves traditional camping. It is a relatively cheap (once all the initial equipment (including the all-important rain jacket) has been bought, of course) and fun thing to do. It is also a great way of getting back to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. He loves nothing more than packing up the car with the tent and all the other camping necessities before hitting the road and finding the perfect campsite to set up for the night.
Once the long job of actually putting the tent up is complete, the only thing between us and the stars is a thin piece of canvas. Which we both agree is perfect. However, it also means that the only thing between us and the cold hard ground is also a thin piece of canvas. Therefore, if comfort is essential, as it is for Vicky, unless you invest in some high quality and comfortable groundsheets and sleeping mats, traditional camping may not be for you.
Wild Camping
Wild camping is becoming more and more popular and it is something Mr ESLT is itching to do. Basically, you camp wherever you fancy (within reason i.e. it can’t be in someone’s front garden!), it doesn’t have to be on a campsite. It is important to research the legalities of wild camping in your country or the country you are visiting if it’s something you are interested in. The general rules include seeking the landowner’s permission, setting up at dusk and leaving at dawn and of course taking everything you brought with you.
If the idea of wild camping is something that interests you, a great option is to invest in The Best Car Roof Top Tent in the UK. Glamping

Many of the yurts and glamping pods that we have stayed in over the years have had big comfortable beds (some with 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets), real log fires, kitchens etc. Some have even had their own en-suite facilities. Perfect if you do not want to get back to nature in the literal sense.
