May 2017 – Monthly Round Up

May 2017 – Monthly Round Up

Happy Summer! Yes, the sun has finally graced us with his presence here in Blightly and with temperatures in the mid to high 20s recently we have been enjoying spending time outside. This month has also involved life changing events for Britain and beyond and I think it would be remise of me not to mention the recent horrific terrorist attack in Manchester. I followed along, feeling truly helpless as the even unfolded. Children having fun were the target of the atrocity which has left me with mixed and confused emotions. I have started to question a lot of things, as I’m sure many people have but as after any event of such nature the most over powering one, is one of defiance. We will stand strong, we will not let the monsters of the world stop us enjoying ourselves and living our lives. But we will always remember those who lost theirs in such a tragic circumstance.

Award Winners!

As I mentioned last month we were nominated in the Flight Centre Blog Awards in the Best Established Travel Blog Award category and I am pleased to announce that we WON!!! Yes is now an award-winning blog. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that voted for us – we are super chuffed! Thank you, thank you, thank you πŸ™‚

The Cotswolds, England

Lords of The Manor Exterior, The Cotswolds

Wrigley at Lords of The Manor, The Cotswolds

We headed to The Cotswolds this month, for the first time ever and we couldn’t have been more blown away at the beautiful scenery and quaint towns. We had the pleasure of staying at the Lords of The Manor hotel in the village of Upper Slaughter. It was a lovely stay and we made to feel at home from the second we walked through the door. We were also treated Michelin Star dining. Having never eaten in a Michelin Star restaurant before I had a lot of preconceptions of what to expect, but I can confirm it was magnificent and something I wish I could repeat on a regular basis. If you ever find yourselves in The Cotswolds and are looking for a luxury stay the Lords of The Manor should be at the top of your list.

The Pembrokeshire Coast, Wales

Penrhiw Hotel, St Davids, Wales

Breakfast at Penrhiw Hotel, St Davids, Wales

Following on from our stay in The Cotswolds we heading over the Severn Bridge and into Wales, making a quick pit stop at Mr ESLT’s mum’s house just outside of Cardiff before continuing our journey to The Pembrokeshire Coast. Our first evening saw us being hosted at Penrhiw Hotel (review to follow), a delightful house with amazing grounds located in the city of St Davids. We had a very relaxed night enjoying the early evening sunshine before a great nights sleep followed by a very hearty and delicious breakfast.

St. Davids Bishop Palace, Wales

St Davids Cathedral, Wales

Fully fuelled we headed into St Davids to explore this tiny, yet lovely little city. Our first stop was at St Davids Bishops Palace which is a ruined medieval palace. We wandered around and took the opportunity to sit in the sun in the beautiful surroundings. Our next stop was St Davids Cathedral which is built upon the site of St David’s 6th century monastery. I couldn’t have wished for a nicer, chilled out birthday, oh yes, forgot to mention – I celebrated my birthday in Wales!

Rich Castle, Pembrokeshire Coast

Mr ESLT at Rich Castle, Pembrokeshire Coast

Our next stop was the out of this world Roch Castle, yes actual CASTLE (review to follow). What an amazing place to stay on the night of my birthday. We enjoyed walking in the grounds and relaxing, enjoying our surroundings and admiring the views. After an amazing night’s sleep and another hearty breakfast we headed back to Mr ESLT’s mum’s house near Cardiff for another fly by visit. We had a great trip!

Afternoon Tea at Twr y Felin, St Davids

Scone at Twr y Felin, St Davids

On our Pembrokeshire Coast road trip we were invited to have afternoon tea at Twr y Felin hotel in St Davids (review to follow). I mean come on what’s not to love about afternoon tea? The hotel itself is delightful and our mid afternoon indulgence was fantastic. As the weather wasn’t great it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon in St Davids and one we would highly recommend.

Las Vegas, USA

Welcome to Las Vegas sign

Welcome to Las Vegas sign

This will actually be my second and Mr ESLT’s third time in Sin City and after our road trip through California we will be using it as a place to relax. There are still a few things I want to see and explore, especially Downtown Las Vegas but hopefully we can still fit in a lot of pool time too.

Travel Planning

I’ve finally arranged Mr ESLT’s birthday break away and we are heading to Luxembourg. It is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe but from the research we have done it still looks like there is so much for us to see and do. We will be heading there mid September and fingers crossed the weather will still be nice enough for alfresco dining and enjoying beer in the sun.

Oh what a lovely blog! What lovely photos! Congrats on the Award. Looks like you deserve it. I so want to visit. All the icky stuff going on in the world is making me so sad…It’s a lifelong dream to see Europe and I hope to make it happen. Hey, I noticed you are going to CA on a road trip!! We just got back from an 18 day trip. We didn’t have as much time in each place as you have listed here, but I am currently doing write ups about it on my blog. I hope you will hop over and check it out and be inspired. California is AAAAAMAZING!! I wish we could’ve stayed longer. You are gonna just fall in love. I want to go back again but slow down. It’s so vast and there was so much to see and with three kids in tow, we did what we could. I could’ve spent a week in every stop. Congrats again and have a blast! Amanda from
