Happy New Year everyone! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and holiday period wherever in the world you celebrated it. December for us was not as smooth sailing as we had hoped it would be. With only one trip planned in December to Rotterdam we had planned for a lot of long lazy days at home, buying Christmas presents and really getting into the festive spirit. Unfortunately, things just did not turn out that way for us.
Whilst we were in Iceland my nana had a stroke which meant from the second we landed until now and the foreseeable future, she is my priority. We are a very small family, myself being the eldest of two granddaughters – that’s it. Prior to her stroke she was a very fit, independent and active 79-year-old, so this has shocked us all. Because of this we of course cancelled our trip to Rotterdam to be with her and have visited her in hospital every day ever since. She is getting better every day, thank goodness, and we are just waiting now for her to be transferred from the hospital to a specialist stroke rehabilitation centre. It will be a slow process but she is one tough and determined lady!
This month saw Mr ESLT and I celebrate our 10 year anniversary – yes, we have made it to the decade mark. The special milestone inspired me to write two relevant posts:
We actually spent the evening of our anniversary back at the bar where we met all those years ago and had a quick drink for old times sake before indulging in a yummy tapas meal at a local restaurant. It was a great night, and a break from reality for a few hours. Here’s to the next 10 years!
I also published our 2017 Itinerary in December which sets out our travel plans for the forthcoming year. We really can’t wait for our next trip, it seems like a lifetime since our last.
North Yorkshire, England
Our first trip of the year sees us packing up the car and heading over to North Yorkshire which is only actually a couple of hours drive away. We will be spending the evening at The Angel Inn in Hetton, where we are looking forward to an evening of eating good food, drinking good wine and hopefully having some time to explore the local area.
New York and Philadelphia
Our first trip of the year will be a week in New York with a quick side trip to Philadelphia (we really want to see the Rocky steps!). Even though we have been to New York before, our itinerary of things to do and see is still as long as my arm. We are being hosted by The Wellington Hotel, where we actually stayed on our last trip to the Big Apple 9 years ago. We are also working with a number of other fantastic companies including On Location Tours who are hosting Anisa from Two Traveling Texans and I on a Sex And The City Tour (CAN.NOT.WAIT), we will be celebrating Chinese New Year with Hornbower Cruises and CityPASS who are providing us with a complimentary booklet of tickets to 6 of the top attractions in the city. We are also going to be ticking off Aladdin from my Broadway Bucket List and attending an ice hockey and a basketball game. I’ll be honest I do not know the rules for either of the games but I can drink beer like a pro and wiggle a foam finger!
Travel Blogger Interviews
This month we featured interviews from the following fantastic travel bloggers:-
Yearly Round Up
As the year drew to a close it also gave us the opportunity to take a look back on the Top 13 Travel Moments of 2016. It was a tough job to get it down to just 13 as there were in fact hundreds!
Until next month……..safe travels 🙂
