Guest Interview – See She Flies and Writes

This week’s guest post comes from Eva, travel blogger behind See She Flies and Writes. Eva explains ‘I have liked traveling for a long time now, maybe because my mum has always been a traveler and I picked up her passion from an early age on. Friends have told me to write about it online and I decided to do so! I am also into photography I so post plenty of pictures, too’.

1. What is your name and where do you come from?

My name is Eva and I am from Austria.

2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?

I would most likely call myself a backpacker. I’d love to be a full time traveller, who knows, maybe someday?

3. How do you fund your travelling?

I put almost all my money that I don’t spend on necessities like rent or groceries away for travelling. I also look up cheap (flight or other) deals and book them in advance. It’s a good thing I like camping, it’s not the most expensive way to stay somewhere!

4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?

The best place I’ve been to was British Columbia. It was a combination of nature, the people I was with, the sports we did (hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting, …) and how I felt back then. I think you can go to places at the wrong time of your life and in B.C. everything fit. I was in the right place when I went there.

5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?

I think some cities were too crowded. I might have loved them, if there hadn’t been as many people. Venice for example, or Edinburgh. I still loved aspects and parts of those cities, but when I think back, the first thing that pops into my head are the crowded centres. I should revisit the cities again, in less touristy seasons.

6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?

I don’t really have a bucket list. I would like to try to see as many places/countries as possible. If someone came up to me to offer free tickets for going to three places of my choice, I’d pick: Alaska, New Zealand and some place in South America, because I’ve never even come close to it. Maybe Peru.

7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?

  • My camera (or at least some camera)
  • A book (in most cases fiction)
  • A notebook and a pen (I hope they count as one thing!)

8. What makes you happy and why?

Nature makes me very happy, because it lets me see the beauty of the world that often otherwise seems grim. It makes me feel calm and right where I belong. One other thing is books, maybe because they also have the ability to take you on a journey. Since I have my WordPress blog I also noticed I enjoyed reading other people’s travel blogs, it makes me happy to see their pictures and read about their travels. Then I’m like ‘Oh, yes! I want to go there, too!’

9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

I’ve started this blog this year in August and I did so because friends said they would like to read about my travels. I was touched and since I like taking pictures and writing, I thought ‘Why not? I’ll give it a try!’

10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?

I think every blog is unique. It’s one (or more) person’s personal thoughts, their adventures, how they see the world. In my blog I’m trying to write about places that haven’t been written about much in English. Apart from that I want other people to see the joy I felt when I was at those places. Maybe I can make them at least a bit as happy as I was when being there.

From ESLT – thank you Eva for taking the time to answer our questions. Safe Travels 🙂
