Iceland: Road Trip Playlist

Ok, a little light-hearted post today and I need your help. A week today we are heading to Iceland (the country, not the English frozen food store) where we will be picking up our hire car courtesy of Lagoon Car Rental for our road trip. We plan to explore the south of the island as much as we can in the five or so hours of sunlight we will have each day, as well as driving the Golden Circle and of course visiting the Blue Lagoon – I don’t care if it’s a tourist trap, it can trap me as much as it likes, it looks amazing!

As we all know, no road trip is complete without a kick-ass road trip mix tape (sorry I mean playlist, I was showing my age there!). So Mr ESLT and I have been racking our brains for appropriate tracks to add to our Iceland playlist to listen (and sing along in my case) to as we admire the beautiful Icelandic scenery on our journey from place to place. We love to make playlists before we take journeys, especially road trips as the songs then hold amazing memories for us afterwards.

So the theme – any song or song by artist related (or tenuously related) to cold, snow, ice, attractions in Iceland or Iceland in general. To be honest it has not been as easy as we first thought it would be. So after hours of flicking through our iPods and Apple music we think we have found some great songs to add to our road trip playlist.

Our Iceland Top 20 Playlist

1. Baby It’s Cold Outisde – Dean Martin

2. Cold As Ice – Foreigner

3. Cold Game – Maverick Sabre

4. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall – Coldplay

5. Frozen – Madonna

6. Hoppípolla – Sigur Rós

7. Ice Age – Joy Division

8. Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice

9. I Smell Winter – The Housemartins

10. It’s Oh So Quiet – Bjork

11. Let It Go – From Frozen

12. Little Talks – of Monsters and Men

13. No Light, No Light – Florence & The Machine

14. Numb – Rhianna ft. Eminem

15. Waterfall – Stone Roses

16. Waterfalls – TLC

17. White Winter Hymnal – Fleet Foxes

18. Winter – Daughter

19. Winter Winds – Mumford & Sons

20. You Can Do It – Ice Cube

As you can see our playlist is quite eclectic (to put it mildly!). A 20 song long playlist won’t last us that long considering the amount of driving we are likely to do during our stay in Iceland. So, we’d love to hear your suggestions to add to our list – don’t forget the rules 🙂

Also, have you ever been to Iceland? Is there anywhere you would recommend that we should visit – we love recommendations from people who have actually been!

How about some Icelandic bands/artists – you definitely need some Bjork or Sugarcubes on there! Sea bear are great too, ‘Arms’ and ‘I’ll Build You a Fire’ are great songs.

Not forgetting Múm and also, if you like Sigur Ros then Jonsi’s solo stuff and the music by Jonsi & Alex is all good!

  4. Haha fun post!! I’m heading to Iceland for a similar driving tour in January… If I was planning a play list it would have to be a bit more ‘walking on sunshine’ or ‘its getting hot in herre’ than ‘cold as ice’. Haha great blog.

    • Ha, I suppose tracks to make you feel warm would be a great way to go 🙂 We’ve just checked the weather for this weekend (we fly on Friday) and it doesn’t look too bad (fingers crossed!!!) I still plan on packing my entire wardrobe just in case 🙂
