This week’s guest post comes from Travel Your Dreams. Lauren explains: ‘I’m a 19 year old travel blogger living in Northamptonshire, England and much like the majority of us, I can’t wait to get away from where I live. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve made some amazing memories here through my childhood & the majority of my studies but I’m just ready to see and experience much, much more! I want to travel to other countries, with diverse cultures, different languages and do exciting things such as sky dive etc…I’m ready to explore and push myself along the way, its an exciting time of my life & I can’t wait to share it with you! I aim to inspire everyone to not only FOLLOW your dreams but to TRAVEL them. Just go do it!’
1.What is your name and where do you come from?
My name is Lauren Alger and I come from Towcester in England (boooring). However, my partner who is also a big part of my blog, Louis, is originally from New Zealand but I met him at school in Towcester where he now lives too (much more exciting haha)!
2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?
I’m definitely a part-time traveller, although I dream of a life of full time travel…doesn’t everyone? At the moment my moto is work, save, travel and repeat. So I’m working near home in England and then travelling for long periods of time when I do go. I took a back pack to Thailand, but didn’t get on with it too well, I’d say I live the back packing lifestyle when I travel (hostels, overnight buses etc.) …but with a suitcase from now on!
3. How do you fund your travelling?
Work, work, work. Whilst studying a levels, I had 3 jobs in 3 different towns near home and that is how I saved to go to Thailand after education! Now I’m back working, but just 1 job about 48 hours a week to fund a 3 month trip to NZ and Aus! I think I’m a bit of a work-a-holic when I HAVE to work!
4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?
My favourite place travelled so far is Chiang Mai in Thailand, I loved it there! It was so easy to get around, the coffee shops made me feel at home although I was thousands of miles away, I finally got to care for elephants which was top of my bucket list and the people were extremely friendly. I also love Paris, it’s a beautiful city that will always hold a place in my heart as its where me and my partner got together!
5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?
Sorry Thailand…but Bangkok!! My body just did not agree with the heat, the food and the business of the city. The temples and the old town are great, but 1 day would be enough if I was to visit again!
6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?
I’m a travel blogger…of course I have a bucket list! But choosing my top 3 places is sooo hard! New Zealand is first, I’m longing to see where my boyfriend grew up, plus I get to meet his Kiwi family! Australia is a firm favourite, the beaches, the snorkelling and I have an aunt out there that I’d love to meet and stay with. Finally, the Philippines! I follow an Instagram account dedicated to the Philippines and the wanderlust is REAL!
7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?
A note book/travel journal; I love to write about my trips on the go in the evenings. I also love having somewhere to store train tickets, maps etc.to scrapbook with once I am home! Secondly, my phone is my sat-nav, my clock, my thermometer and my camera when I go anywhere! And lastly, one of my boyfriend’s t-shirts (if he’s not coming with me), it smells and reminds me of home, plus it makes a great pillow cover for those not so clean hostel beds!
8. What makes you happy and why?
Discovering new places and being able to explore with no rush genuinely makes me happy. Just walking around aimlessly and knowing the day isn’t wasted because 1. I often find things/places I wouldn’t have found otherwise and 2. I’ve got as long as I want in that place! Exploring with my best friend Louis also makes me happy, I don’t enjoy it as much with anybody else!
9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
I’ve only been blogging since March and I started after being surprised with a trip to Paris. I want to eventually study photo journalism at University, after realising I could basically bring my scrapbooking to life online with a blog page!
10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?
I’m not sure there is anything that honestly makes my blog unique other than my content, I try and show as much as my personality as I can through my writing and that’s what makes my blog, mine!
From ESLT – thank you Lauren for taking the time to answer our questions. Safe Travels 🙂
