5 Ways To Help You Stay Fit and Healthy While Travelling

Stay Fit and Healthy While Travelling

While a nomadic lifestyle is flexible and fun, it can really affect your consistency in working out and staying on track fitness-wise. Therefore, staying fit and healthy while travelling requires one to make even more of a conscious effort and dedication. Quite often seeing the sites is far more important than hitting the gym. But in reality, there are lots of ways to combine the two.

Here are 5 ways to staying on track while being away from home:

Go For A Run

If you pack a pair of running shoes or even just a pair of trainers, you can get an effective workout in anywhere you go. Before you depart for your trip, check to see if there are proper running trails or tracks near where you are staying. This way you can check out local scenery and landscapes, or just check in to see local fitness spots. If there are no convenient trails or tracks near where you are staying, you can map out a run from where you are staying which passes by all the top sites and attractions in the are.

Use A Fitness App

Using an app is a convenient way to follow a structured workout regime and not have to remember on your own what level or weight you are at. Especially when you are travelling and are keeping track of plenty of other things, it’s a lot easier to simply open an app, pick up where you left off and adjust as needed. For example, the app called 30 day fitness challenge recommends workouts depending on the body part you want to focus on, offers unique challenges, and gives you the freedom of working out any time, anywhere.

Walk, Walk, Walk

Many people find that they actually walk more when they travel. So pack a pair of walking shoes and choose to walk whenever and wherever you can. Take the stairs rather than the elevator, walk to dinner rather taking a taxi or public transport and fit in an extra walk between work and fun. Getting movement in is critical to support a healthy lifestyle, not just pure exercise and going for a gentle (or fast-paced) walk is a great way to both stay fit and healthy while travelling and explore where you are and what it’s got to offer.

Be Resourceful and Use What You Have Access To

Set yourself up to stay fit and healthy while abroad by being resourceful. You can get creative in your workouts, pick a hotel with a gym so you know you have a convenient place to workout in if you know you will be unable to workout outside, go to a local spot with benches or picnic tables to mix up your routine and use what you have access to. That expression ‘if there’s a will, there’s a way’ is very applicable here.

Take A Local Fitness Class

If you enjoy group exercise classes, check out local fitness class offerings before arriving at your destination. If you are confident in your form and it is an exercise format you are used to, you could even try to take a class in the local language. Or check to see if there are classes offered in your native language. Taking a class is also a great way to meet local people and network.
