How to Make Your Camping Trip Romantic

Camping trips don’t have to involve freezing in a thin tent and wading through thick mud as soon as you get out. With some planning, you can create an intimate outdoor experience for you and your partner.  For inspiration for a romantic weekend camping trip this summer, check out our tips below.

Choose a Peaceful Location That Suits You Both

To get away from the crowded tourist spots for a quiet, private area, look for secluded campsites and forest clearings. You could even go wild camping in Loch Lomond or Dartmoor National Park, but bear in mind that you might need a permit in some areas.

If sleeping on the ground doesn’t appeal to you, consider glamping options. Think cosy yurts or bell tents with a few creature comforts, such as Wi-Fi and temperature control. Regardless of your sleeping arrangements, the stillness and view of your location are what can turn camping into a romantic escape.

Set the Scene With Thoughtful Touches

Small details can make the atmosphere and demonstrate your commitment to creating a special atmosphere. Bring soft, oversized blankets, an insulated picnic rug, and comfy pillows to make your tent feel like a nest.

Once the sun sets, you can use lighting to add to the scene. Use soft fairy lights or LED candles to create a gentle glow without the risk of fire, perfect for creating a warm and intimate space. They’ll offer a flickering charm without needing a flame, whether you’re inside the tent or stargazing in your camp chairs.

Keep Food Simple but Shared

Cooking together is a great way to bond, especially outdoors. Avoid an overcomplicated menu and stick to basics, such as pasta cooked over a camp stove or wrapping jacket potatoes in foil and placing them in the embers of a fire pit.

For dessert, you can toast marshmallows on a stick before eating them or adding them to a flask of hot chocolate. Salads are a good option for a light lunch that doesn’t require any cooking, just a few minutes of prep and a dressing.

Leave Time to Slow Down

It’s tempting to fill your trip with long hikes and exploration, but make sure to set aside some time for relaxation. A lazing morning with coffee in sleeping bags or a quiet walk while the sun sets can be more rewarding than a full itinerary.

Camping can be the perfect time to practice mindfulness together. Focus on the sensation of the wind against your body and the sound of insects and birdsong, or the feeling of the ground beneath your feet as you hike up a short trail. It can leave you feeling recharged and ready to return to work after your trip, and more appreciative of the little things.

One final note: don’t forget about the essentials. Make sure your vehicles are in tip-top condition and that you have caravan insurance. If you use one, and write yourself a list of provisions you can’t do without.
