Keeping kids entertained on a long journey can be tough. However, it is essential as you don’t want your children to get bored. When they get bored, their frustration can manifest itself as a meltdown. As parents of two small children, we always ensure that we pack a range of things to entertain them for the duration of the journey. This includes snacks (because hangry kids are never fun), colouring books and pencils, travel games and of course their iPads. We are pretty old school parents and favour outdoor activities over screen time. However, when distraction is the aim of the game, iPads are a parent’s best friend. We find that free online video games are a great way to keep them entertained. Not only are they fun, but many are also educational which gets a big thumbs up from us.
Finding The Right Site For Free Online Video Games
I love playing free online video games. Before the kids came into our lives I could easily spend hours on a long journey playing them. As I’m also a nervous flyer, I found playing them whilst on a plane took my mind off the fact I was hurtling through the air in a large tin can. Even though my kids are not nervous in the slightest, I find that they are a great way to keep them occupied.
As with any website, you want to ensure that the site you choose to play free online video games on is not dodgy. The last thing you want to do is open your device up to malware and such. Therefore you need to choose a reputable site, which has great reviews. One site which we can recommend is Plays.org.
Plays.org offer thousands of games across several different genres with several games being added daily. Check out the ‘New’ tab to see the latest additions. Also, hit the ‘Categories’ tab at the top or scroll to the footer to see all of the categories on offer on the site. All of the games are unblocked free HTML games which you can play directly in your web browser with no app downloads. Therefore, having the ability to game does not take up precious storage on your device.
Choosing Age Appropriate Games
As with anything to do with kids, you have to keep an eye on the content that they are accessing when using devices. That is the same when it comes to online games. Therefore choosing age-appropriate games is a must. From cartoons and comic-book heroes and sports games, there is something for all interests when it comes to free online video games.
We always where possible try to influence our children to opt for educational free online video games. We do this in the hope they learn some new information through the medium of play. If you choose Plays.org, there is a whole section dedicated to educational games. These range from ‘Guardians Defenders of Mathematica’ which is aimed at kids studying KS2 Maths to Zombie Typing Game which is a typing practice game for kids where they can work on their typing speed.
If the kids are not feeling educational games, I, of course, let them play fun ones. After all, it’s about keeping them entertained on long journeys and ensuring they don’t have a meltdown, not provoking one!
