We’ve all had to get used to staycations this year and if one good thing has come out of this pandemic, it’s that we all have more appreciation for the UK. Even as the situation starts to improve a little, you might not want to travel internationally in the early part of 2021. Instead, why not still visit London during the pandemic?
Our capital is such an amazing city with so much to see and do. Even during the pandemic, there is still plenty to keep you entertained during your staycation. However, you do need to take a few extra precautions and do some more planning if you want to get the most out of it. Here’s everything you need to know about planning a staycation in London during a pandemic.
Tips For Staying Safe
Before we look at some of the great things you can do during your trip, it’s important to talk about ways to stay safe. Firstly, make sure that you follow all of the government guidelines regarding masks and social distancing etc. Secondly, pack plenty of hand sanitiser to use as you move around the city. Most major attractions offer it on entrance and exit but its recommended you carry your own just in case.
You should also consider getting tested while you are there so you don’t risk spreading the virus when you return home. Do a quick search for private corona test London and you will be able to find facilities that offer tests and give quick results. Hopefully, it won’t be a problem but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Usually, on a trip to London, the tube is the easiest way to get around. But it’s not very safe right now and you should avoid it where possible. Walking is a much better option anyway as you will discover more of the city along the way.
Where To Stay
London has so many amazing hotels, ranging from simple budget options all the way up to luxury suites. Most of them have all of the right safety measures in place and have worked hard to become COVID-secure, but if you want to be extra careful, look for a self-catered apartment instead.
There are so many great places on Airbnb, which are often cheaper than hotels and mean that you do not have to share facilities with other people. You can also save a bit of money by cooking your own meals on some days too.
What To Do
Although restrictions are in place, there are still plenty of things to do in London at the moment. Restaurants are still open, so you can take advantage of the amazing culinary scene in the capital.
London also has some amazing green spaces, like Hyde Park or Regent’s Park. Even in the winter, these spaces are beautiful, and they’re perfectly safe if you take the necessary precautions and adhere to the guidance, to explore at the minute.
If you want to learn more about the history of our capital and explore parts of the city that you haven’t been to before, why not take a walking tour? There are plenty of them covering a range of topics and interests from Westminister to Harry Potter and everything in between. This is another great outdoor activity to do during the pandemic.
Even though some things are closed, it is definitely worth a visit to London during the pandemic.
