We all need an escape from time to time, a little bit of sun and relaxation while listening to the chorus of waves crashing against the sand. When it comes to selecting the best beach for your holiday, there are definitely a few things that you need to take into consideration. The United States is often considered as a destination packed with numerous cities and National Parks, however, it also has quite a few impressive beach town destinations to choose from too.
How Far Are You Willing To Travel?
You might be lucky enough to be an American that lives in a state that does have a coastline. If this is the case, it might just be a matter of a few hours in the car before you reach your relaxing destination. If you are landlocked and do not have any impressive holiday lake towns, then you might need to decide exactly where you are willing to go. Do you want to drive or fly? Do you want the ocean or a lake? These factor into your holiday.
And if you’re not from the US, you may think a trip to the States is too far for a beach holiday. However, you may be pleasantly surprised by the beach destinations on offer all over the country.
East Coast, West Coast or In-Between?
If you want an action-packed family fun holiday than travel up the East coast to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The boardwalk has impressive museums such as Ripley’s Believe it or Not and a lot of mini-golf, go-kart and amusement ride options that will keep the kids happy.
A short car ride from Myrtle Beach is Hilton Head. This laid back beach community is a golfer and tennis player’s dream come true. You can spend a day on the green or shopping at the local outlet malls. There are plenty of Hilton Head Vacation Rentals right on the beach for easy access to the sun and surf.
Nantucket and the Jersey shore also have amazing beach town destinations for those North Easterners and visitors who want a little bit of relaxation on the sand.
If you plan on holidaying on the West Coast, then you really do have quite a selection in California, Washington and the Oregon coastline. Otters Rock and Devil’s Punch Bowl in Oregon offer quite a bit of majestic beauty with a coastline that is picture-perfect. The beaches range from soft and sandy to rocky and majestic. If you want more of a sun and sand with some surf and palm trees, then you might want to consider California’s Laguna Beach or La Jolla Cove near San Diego.
While the West coast is impressive, the Florida beaches seem to be one of the more popular US beach destination areas. This is most likely because it offers a more diverse option. Those visiting Disney World in Florida can spend a day gulf side or Atlantic side to take in the waves and sun.
Anyone who wants a laid back beach experience can holiday in Marco Island and take in this beach town that is just a hop, skip, and jump from Ft. Myers airport. While in Marco, you can liven up the day and hop a charter bus down to the Florida Keys and take in the sight-seeing and snorkelling opportunities. The Florida Keys are a destination location for families, couples and singles. Key Largo has a laid back vibe with brilliant beaches and great fishing and snorkelling. Key West is where the action is. If you want to shop, dine, and stay in the southernmost point of the United States, then Key West would be your destination.
The United States has some amazing beach town destinations up and down both coasts but it is quite easy to forget about our Great Lakes region. Lake Michigan is home to some of the most impressive soft and sandy shores in the Midwest. There are dunes for hiking and lighthouses to capture in photographs. If you need a bit more excitement than a sleepy beach town, you can visit Chicago which is located right on Lake Michigan. The museums, shows and pizza will leave you wanting to come back to the Windy City during the warm summer months when the beaches are packed and the sailboats are floating on the horizon. Whether you decide on the East coast, West coast or a great lake in between, you will find yourself relaxed and happy on some soft warm sand.
