More than ever before, travellers are today spoiled for choice. There are literally hundreds of thousands of options out there, from the largest cities in the world to the quaintest villages tucked away in rolling hills. In that sea of choice, it can often be difficult to make up your mind where to visit next. If you are visiting England from abroad the allure of London and even Manchester may be hard to resist. However, you really should consider the city of Liverpool in the North West of the country. It really is a great and unique place to visit. Even if you are a Brit like we are Liverpool is a great choice when weighing up staycation options too. It has a lot to offer and as the New Year approaches, here are just a few reasons why you should arrange your spring visit to Liverpool now.
You are a football fan
If you are a fan of Premier League football, it would be absolutely remiss of you not to watch a game live in one of the most famous stadiums in the world. Spring in the League promises to be entertaining, so a trip to Anfield is an absolute must. Even if your visit does not coincide with a match, a stadium tour is a great experience. You can explore the press room, dressing rooms and the Kop, the most-renowned stand at Anfield.
Of course, while in Liverpool, you should cross Stanley Park and head to Goodison Park for a taste of Merseyside Blue (Everton) too.
You want to get to know the locals
Scousers (Liverpool locals) are incredibly friendly and hospitable and if you are one of those travellers who like to get to know the locals wherever you travel, Liverpool is a great place to do that. True, you might have a bit of trouble with the accent, but it will only take a day or two to adopt some of the local phrases and blend in.
You are a Beatles fan
As the hometown of John, Paul, George and Ringo – Liverpool is the place to head if you are a Beatles fan. One of the places you need to visit is the Beatles Story which is an award-winning museum located on the historic Albert Dock. It is the world’s largest permanent Beatles exhibition. And no visit to Liverpool for any Beetles fan is complete without a visit to the world-famous Cavern Club billed as the birthplace of the Beatles, located on Mathew Street.
But even if you are more of a Rolling Stones kind of person, heading down to the city with the most number 1 singles in the UK is a treat for any music aficionado.
Or just a fan of good tunes
Even if your musical tastes are more modern, Liverpool has plenty to offer in terms of nightly entertainment. Places like the Arts Club, The Jacaranda and The Olympia host famous and infamous band, up-and-coming acts and bands you’ve never even heard of and always promise an eventful and thrilling night.
You want to meet new people
If one of the main allures of travelling is meeting up with fellow travellers, look no further than this great hostel in Liverpool that takes communal living up a notch. While you can have your own very comfy room (or share with your friends), the shared eating and living spaces allow for a lot of socialising and some great chats at the pool table. Who knows a chance meeting at the hostel could lead to lifelong friendships with people all over the world.
You are interested in architecture
If you spend your trips admiring the buildings around you, Liverpool should be just your cup of tea. With buildings dating back over 500 years still standing, you will be spoiled for choice. From Speke Hall and its incredible interiors to The Bluecoat Chambers and The Three Graces, the Royal Liver Building and the glory and marvel that is Albert Dock, you can spend a week in Liverpool doing nothing but admiring the handiwork of our forebears.
While certainly not as widely popular as London or Manchester, Liverpool is the underdog of UK tourist attractions: and the best way to get to know it is to visit this very spring.
