USA: 4 Places to Visit in Eugene, Oregon

Located about two hours south of Portland, the lovely Oregon town of Eugene boasts a range of activities. These include a vibrant art scene, a booming microbrew culture, endless dining and shopping options and a host of opportunities to get out and connect with nature in a stunning setting. Here are four places to put at the top of your travel itinerary when visiting Eugene.

Alton Baker Park

There are many places to enjoy the great outdoors while in Eugene, and Alton Baker Park is a favourite for its 230 acres of unspoiled natural area. The park also features duck ponds and a fenced off-lead dog park. A network of biking trails are perfect for working up a sweat in this active town. Visitors to Alton Baker Park will also enjoy the 18-hole disc golf course.

Mount Pisgah Arboretum

This 209-acre nature preserve is conveniently located just five miles southeast of downtown Eugene. The living tree museum features eight miles of trails for hiking. It also has a tranquil water garden, wildflower meadows, and sweeping views across oak savannas. The park is open every day from dawn through dusk. Mount Pisgah Arboretum is also home to a variety of popular local events. These include a wildflower festival and a mushroom festival.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Located on the campus of the University of Oregon, this gem boasts a wide variety of permanent collections and rotating exhibitions. Its vast assortment includes works of art spanning centuries and all parts of the world, but there is a particular focus on the art of Asia. Be sure to check the calendar prior to your visit to look for one of the many special events the museum offers. While in the area, make time to visit the various other attractions on campus such as the iconic Hayward Field and the student bookstore.

Oregon Air and Space Museum

This museum is housed right next to the airport, making it the perfect spot to drop by and see on your way into or out of town. It is also a fascinating use of your time on a long layover. The Oregon Air and Space Museum is home to a collection of historic aircraft, artefacts and spacecraft that pay homage to the state’s storied aviation history.
