There are so many sites giving so much information on the internet about getting the best flight deals to and from the UK. If you are not an avid traveller, trawling the internet can be very time consuming, boring and often frustrating. We, however, love spending hours on end searching for the best flight deals out there, both for ourselves and for friends and family. Therefore, we thought we would share some of the ways we get the best deals which allow us to travel as much as we do.
Saving money, even if it is only a few pounds, dollars etc on your flights means you then have more cash to splash on the fun things when travelling, such as taking part in activities and visiting attractions, eating at great local restaurants and even indulging in an airport chauffeur to ensure you arrive at your destination in style. Simply put, why spend more on your flights than necessary? We hope our tips and recommendations help you in finding the best flight deals available should you be flying into, or out of the UK this summer.
Use A Flight Comparison Site
The first and major thing we suggest you use is a flight comparison site. They compare the flight costs of most, if not every major airline and show you the price based on your specific search criteria. You can filter the information right down to flight times i.e. early morning, late at night. There are loads to chose from on the internet, however, our personal favourites are Skyscanner, especially for the ‘everywhere’ search option and Ebookers which allows you to price up flights on there own and flights and accommodation as a package deal which more often than not saves you money when you book them together, not separately.
Clear Your Cookies
I genuinely didn’t know what cookies were for ages and had to do some research. Basically, they are small files which store some information about you for a set period of time i.e. your search history. So every time you search for a flight, that information will be stored, showing that there is a demand for that flight, therefore potential pushing the price up. This is “dynamic pricing”, which is when companies actually use your search history against you. In order to help stop this from happening, simply clear your cookies at the of every search session. To do this depends on the computer you use, a quick google search will help you find out how.
Find The Best Time
Summer is always going to be the most expensive time to fly into or out of the UK, second maybe only to Christmas and New Year. Therefore, it’s important to be on the ball when it comes to finding the best flight deals. People used to say Tuesday afternoons where the prime time to pick up a great deal, although I’ll be honest, I never really found it to be true. Therefore, when Skyscanner introduced a handy new ‘Best Time To Book’ tool, it was something I couldn’t wait to try. It’s designed to allow you to quickly see what the cheapest month to travel is and how much you can save if you book at the right time and I have found that it works a treat.
Take Advantage of Flash Sales
At various times throughout the year, many large and prestigious airlines run flash sales, meaning you can pick up flights at great prices. We have, over the years, grabbed some great deals, especially with Etihad and Qatar airlines. The best way to ensure you are notified of such sales is to sign up to the airline’s mailing lists to receive their emails. Don’t forget since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force at the end of May, it’s important for you to give your permission for companies to contact you, so ensure you do, because you won’t want to miss out on offers and sales, it could save you a pretty penny.
A great way to save money on your flight is to fly indirectly. Obviously, if you are on a business trip or a tight turn around then you may not have the time to add a stop to your itinerary. However, if you are travelling for longer, why not make your trip a multicentre one. If you are flying to the UK from Asia a couple of days in the UAE, maybe Dubai or Abu Dhabi is a great option as it will also give you the opportunity to see two very different countries and experience different cultures. It also splits your journey up so you are not in the air for so long, therefore giving you the opportunity to stretch your legs and take advantage of yet more duty-free shops.
Use Budget Airlines
If you are travelling on a shoestring budget or want to save as much as possible on your flight to have extra money to spend once you reach your destination then budget airlines are the perfect solution. If you are flying between Europe and the UK then you are spoilt for choice as there are so many which offer uber low fares, including Ryanair, Jet2 and EasyJet, amongst others. There has also recently been a rise in the number of transatlantic budget airlines including Norwegian and Primera Air, ideal for journeys between the UK and America. If you are happy to travel without hold luggage or an onboard meal and drinks, this is an extremely cost-effective option.
We hope our tips and recommendations help you find the best flight deals on the internet and that your search is not too long or frustrating. There are deals and bargains to be had out there you just need to know where to look, especially on routes between the UK and Europe, Asia and America. So, once you have found the ideal flight for you, the only things you have to do is pack your bags, relax on your flight and enjoy your trip!
