USA: Attractions for All Interests in Houston, Texas

Houston, Texas, has been in the news recently because of the unprecedented flooding it has suffered due to Hurricane Harvey, which has turned streets into rivers, damaged a lot of property, and led to lost lives. At the moment, Houston most certainly does have a problem. However, like the states affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Houston will bounce back to its former glory and become the tourist hotspot it was prior to Harvey’s devastating visit.
If you’re planning on visiting, remember to book your Houston hotel well in advance as it’s a busy city and tourists flock to it all year round. With hot, humid summers running from May to August and mild winters between the months of November and February, there really isn’t a bad time to visit. Houston is brimming with attractions for all the family and for people with a range of interests and varying budgets. Here are our top five things to do in Houston.

Visit Museums

There are many museums in Houston, most of which are in the Museum District. This is a particularly popular area in Houston because 11 museums are free to visit all the time and others are free on Thursdays. Here, you’ll find The Houston Museum of Natural Science, The Children’s Museum of Houston, and the Museum of Fine Arts, among others.

Take In a Show

You’ll find a number of venues in The Theater District in downtown Houston, where you can catch a show, a musical, or even a concert in the area. These include Alley Theatre, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and Bayou Place, a large entertainment complex containing multiple theaters together with many bars and restaurants.

Catch a Game

Houston has a team in each of the four major professional sports:

  • The Houston Astros (MLB) – Minute Maid Park
  • Houston Texans (NFL) – NRG Stadium
  • Houston Rockets (NBA) – Toyota Center
  • Houston Dynamo (MLS) – BBVA Compass

Why not try to catch a game whilst in town? If not, take a stadium tour to see what happens behind the scenes.

Hit the Shops

If you love to shop, then Houston is for you. Designer brands and boutiques can be found at The Galleria. With over 375 stores, many restaurants, hotels, and an ice rink, you’ll find everything you need. It certainly offers a shopping experience to remember.
