Charlotte is the largest city in the state of North Carolina, and it’s growing rapidly, with roughly 2,537,990 Charlotteans living in the metropolitan area. Many people may not think of Charlotte as a vacation destination. It isn’t an obvious place that jumps to mind, and more often than not, it’s overshadowed by larger cities. However, North Carolina is a beautiful state with a lot to offer, and Charlotte has a number of unique attractions that you won’t find anywhere else.
With that in mind, it’s important to give yourself enough time to experience these attractions. Start by choosing the perfect hotel to stay at whilst exploring the city, and don’t miss these top three attractions for the ultimate Charlotte experience.
1. NASCAR Hall of Fame

Even though the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) headquarters is in Daytona Beach, Florida, you’ll find the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. Because of stock car racing’s roots in North Carolina, it was considered the perfect place for the Hall of Fame to be built in 2010. It’s owned by the City of Charlotte and operated by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. The hall of fame honours drivers, crew, and owners who have made a major contribution to the sport over the years. You can learn all about the sport and your favourite drivers as you wander through the museum.
2. Charlotte Ballet
The Charlotte Ballet is the oldest professional ballet company in North Carolina and home to a world-class dance ensemble. It was founded in 1970 by Robert Lindgren. It currently features 22 professional dancers who perform classic, contemporary, and cutting-edge dance performances throughout the year. If you are a culture vulture with a passion for the arts, no visit to Charlotte is complete without indulging in an evening at the ballet. Performances sell out quickly, so don’t forget to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
3. Carowinds Amusement Park

If you are a thrill seeker, then a visit to Carowinds Amusement Park should be at the top of your list. It is a 398-acre (161 ha) amusement park located in Charlotte, and the park opened in 1973. On the same site, you will also find Carolina Harbor, a 20-acre (81,000-square-meter) water park. Here, you will find rides for the whole family, from the young to the young at heart. There are a number of shows performed on a daily basis and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. In fact, there is so much going on at Carowinds, one day might not be enough time to do it all.
This list highlights just a few of the amazing things you can do and see whilst in Charlotte. There are of course plenty more attractions and sites for you to visit and explore during your trip.
