Guest Interview – Alright Blondie

Jess from Alright Blondie

This week’s guest post comes from Jess, blogger behind Alright Blondie. She explains ‘I’m a travel and lifestyle blogger from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. I spent 2015 having the time of my life in Australia and now I’m back in England, working in an office Monday to Friday 9-5 and trying to adult the best I can. On my blog you will find posts on my adventures both local and abroad, restaurant reviews, the occasional ramble and/or rant and tips and advice on saving, relationships and surviving adulthood.’

1. What is your name and where do you come from?

My name’s Jess and I’m from a teeny tiny village in North Yorkshire. I spent 2015 travelling around Australia but now I’m home, sob.

2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?

I’d say I’m definitely a part time traveller. I’m lucky as I get a great annual leave allowance + bank holidays so as long as I use my days and wage wisely, I can squeeze quite a lot into a year.

3. How do you fund your travelling?

I worked full time before my trip to Australia, saving every penny had then when I got there I signed up with recruitment agencies for temporary office jobs. I would definitely recommend this because even though you are restricted to a 9-5 Mon-Fri role, you earn great money and can take unpaid time off to go on adventures. I’m now back in my old job, saving away for my next trip.

4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?

Definitely Western Australia – Yes the whole state! It’s so underrated compared to it’s East coast counterparts but it has so much more to offer. Miles and miles of white sandy beaches, tonnes of national parks and some great road trip opportunities – There’s nothing I didn’t like about it.

5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?

I hated Bangkok and I don’t really know why as I’m usually a fan of big cities. I think it was just a bit dirty, a bit busy and a bit to hectic for my liking. I wasn’t a fan of Kuta in Bali either, although Ubud and Seminyak were absolutely beautiful, Too much harassment from street vendors I guess (although I do understand they’re only trying to make a living!).

6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?

  • See the polar bears in Churchill, Canada.
  • Snorkel in Belize.
  • Witness the Northern Lights but I’m not fussy about where!

7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?

My camera, a sleep mask and a journal.

8. What makes you happy and why?

My family, dogs and boyfriend but I suppose they’re kind of obvious ones aren’t they? Apart from that then I would have to say experiencing a new place for the first time. That sense of wonder and excitement you get is one of the best feelings in the world.

9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

I started blogging two years ago to chronicle my trip to Australia and what started out as an online diary just for me has expanded and now people actually read and comment on what I have to say. I’m only a small blogger but I really do love it as it’s the only hobby (apart from travel) that I have really.

10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?

People should read my blog because I like to think I have my own way of writing, making sure my tone of voice comes across. Sometimes my content isn’t the most original but I will always be honest about my experiences, whether they are good or bad!

From ESLT – thank you Jess for taking the time to answer our questions. Safe Travels 🙂
