This week’s guest post comes from Live Dream Wander. She explains ‘Six years ago at the age of 21 I had this crazy idea to quit my job, pack my backpack and go backpacking through Europe. Nine months of craziness, partying, navigating through cobblestone streets, sightseeing, meeting new people, hoping in a van with new found friends, trying new things and growing as a person I now have travel in my blood. Since then I have travelled through South East Asia relaxing on pristine beaches, eating local food, drinking my fair share of cocktails and seeing temples that I’ll never get sick of marvelling over. Ive done a road trip in a van with no air-conditioning for 8 weeks in the middle of summer through the USA, lived in and experienced temperatures in the minuses in a few places that will always be in my heart in Canada. A fun loving Australian with a big heart and a serious case of Wanderlust. I still and always will have the need to seek out new places and go on big adventures’.
1.What is your name and where do you come from?
I’m Shara May and Im an Australian through and through! I come from a laid backed surfy town called Noosa in the state of Queensland.
2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?
Ive been a part time backpacker for the last 6 years. As much as I’d love to be full time I also love having a life outside of travel. So I get the best of both worlds.
3. How do you fund your travelling?
I am a Beauty Therapist by trade. It has come in so handy for me to get jobs here and there and it gets me some extra dollar dollar bills for my travels.
4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?
Oh I hate this question! I really don’t have a ‘best’ place. Every where I have been has been unique and amazing in it’s own way. I can never pick favourites! Some of my top destinations though include – Scotland, Cambodia, New Orleans in the USA and Koh Samui in Thailand.
5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?
It wasn’t the worst place I have been. No place I have been has ever been the ‘worst,’ If I had to pick a least favourite place though it would have to be Japan. I really did not click with this country. If you want to know why check out my post.
6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?
Of course I have a Bucket List!!!! Hungary, Croatia and Peru.
Peru and other parts of South America will be my next big trip at the end of this year. Firstly I have my backpacking trip through Central America coming up this February. And Hungary and Croatia might just be early to mid 2017 watch this space!
7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?
My computer and my camera. And the third is a little quirky! I have this black soft cotton scarf that has been to every country I have been to with me. Its kinda my lucky scarf in a way. It doesn’t take up space, it covers me perfectly to give me some warmth on flights, trains and buses when the aircon gets to chilli.
8. What makes you happy and why?
Ah travel of course! Apart from that though my cats lol yeah a little bit crazy cat lady here! I also have a wonderful fiancé that understands my need for travel and supports me when I take long extended backpacking trips solo and that makes this girl happy!
9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
Oh gosh I am so new to blogging! I started literally at the beginning of this year (January 2016) I am the new blogger on the block! It is small at the moment but all great things have to start somewhere!
10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?
Im hoping my honesty and humour make it unique. Im pretty honest with what I talk about and Im not going to not say something in fear of offending someone that isn’t my style. As for the humour hey I’m Australian I may be biased but we Aussies have a wicked sense of humour!
From ESLT – thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Shara. We love that Koh Samui is on your ‘Best Places’ list, we might be biased because we spent part of our honeymoon there but we love it too! Aww we have cats too and they make us super happy and they are one (well two) of the reasons we could never be full time travellers – we love them so much and genuinely miss them when we are away from them so we completely understand why they make you happy. They are not just pets but part of the family. You are also very lucky to have such and understanding fiancé, we know a lot of people who limit their travel due to lack of support from their other half. It’s lovely to meet a new blogger and having read your latest posts we can’t wait to read more….safe travels 🙂
