USA: How to Plan For Your Next Trip to Philadelphia

Philadelphia

There are so many fantastic cities and places to visit in the USA, that it’s understandable if you’re unsure where to start. One city that’s a common tourist destination for good reason is Philadelphia. Philadelphia, or Philly, is the largest city in Pennsylvania. It’s steeped in history and culture, and you can spend a busy couple of weeks there exploring the city and surrounding areas. Here are a few tips to help you prepare and plan your next trip to Philadelphia.

When to Visit

Philadelphia is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. So how you pack depends on when in the year you’re going. The best time to visit is usually in the spring because it’s relatively affordable and no longer freezing cold.

During the summer, you’ll find much hotter temperatures and more tourists also visiting Philly. This means the city will be more crowded, less comfortable, and more expensive. Of course, the best time to visit might also depend on your schedule, so bear in mind your availability and be willing to be flexible.

Where to Stay

Philadelphia is a very walkable city, particularly compared to other cities in the US. This means that, as long as you’re in the centre, you can easily make it to a lot of the tourist attractions and interesting sites in the city itself.

So, it stands to reason that you should look for hotels in Center City. This will allow you to walk to more places and take public transportation when you need to. Of course, if you want to go further afield, it helps to hire a car during your stay so you have more freedom.

Where to Go

When you’re in the city, make sure you have an itinerary planned of where to go and what to do. You should definitely explore the food and drink scene in Philly, especially the rightly famous Philly cheesesteak.

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway features loads of museums so you can explore the arts and culture that Philadelphia has to offer. You can spend ages just walking around the city parks as well if you prefer a more low-key trip.

Philadelphia also features the Italian Market and the Reading Terminal Market, so you can shop in style.

These are just a few things that you can do and see in Philly.

Remembering Your Trip

Unfortunately, every trip must come to an end. Thankfully, Philly has a lot of shops so you can easily pick up something to remember your visit. Another idea is to take plenty of photos so you can look back on your time there.

Philadelphia can be enjoyed as a solo trip or with a large group of friends, and you can also stay for anything ranging from a weekend getaway to a few weeks to really get to know the city. Make sure you get to see some of the landmark buildings and views of Philadelphia and try to meet new people while you’re there for a trip to remember.
