When people think about visiting the UK, they focus on London and things to see and do there. Now, we have nothing against London, it is a great city and you should certainly spend some time there but the UK has so much more to offer. Having lived in the UK all our lives, we have been fortunate to see quite a bit of it. From cities to coast and countryside and not forgetting history and culture, the UK does have it all. Well, maybe everything but the weather. You may even be from the UK yourself and have not had the opportunity yet to explore further afield than your local area and are now thinking about planning a trip. Here we look at 6 ways to explore the UK depending on who you are travelling with, if anyone, and your interests.
Road Trip

One great way to explore the UK is to take a road trip. This could either be in your car if you live in the UK and have one or by hiring a car if you are simply visiting. A road trip gives you the freedom to see what you want when you want to see it. You could design an itinerary for a certain area to ensure you visit all the places you want to. Having a car means you are the master of your own destiny and can incorporate locations you want to visit and spend time at attractions or destinations that you want to.
Coach Holiday

Coach holidays are a great way to explore the UK if you are not able to drive yourself or simply don’t want to and want to sit back and let someone else take the wheel. Several companies offer set itineraries incorporating some of the most interesting and beautiful places in the UK. Coach holidays are also a great idea if you are travelling on your own as they allow you to meet other people who have similar interests. Who knows you could make friends and take future coach holidays together and see other parts of the UK.
Team Expedition

Perhaps you are an adrenaline junkie or fancy pushing your physical limits. If that sounds like you then why not opt for a team expedition as the UK is a great place to explore if you want to indulge in outdoor pursuits. Again, many companies offer such adventures. So why not grab a group of friends or family or even sign up on your own and take part in activities which allow you to get your blood pumping while exploring the UK from unique viewpoints including hiking, abseiling and watersports.
Train

The UK’s rail network reputation may not be that favourable compared to other countries, especially our mainland European neighbours, however, if you want to explore the UK by train it is possible. They are a great option if you want to get somewhere quickly and do not have the option to drive. The main things you need to remember are to opt for off-peak times to travel and book your train tickets in advance (12 weeks before is the optimal time). This way you should get a seat and not pay over the odds for your journey.
Walking Tour

Walking tours are a popular way to explore the UK. Group walking tours are great if you want company, encouragement to keep going and a knowledgeable tour guide to answer your questions. There are a number of companies that offer such tours which vary in difficulty and duration. Solo walking tours are also a great way to see what the UK has to offer. How much time you have and your ability level will determine where you should explore, with the ultimate walking tour of the UK being John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Cycling Trip

Another great way to explore the UK is by taking a cycling trip. It allows you to see what the UK has to offer and also allows you to get some fresh air and exercise. As with a walking tour, you can join a group by booking a cycling holiday. Many companies offer set itineraries with some even offering the opportunity to tailor-make your own. Or if you would rather go it alone and take the trip at your own pace, why not? And not to worry if you don’t own a bike or have access to one, you could always hire one for your trip.
So are you ready to explore the UK? How will you do it?
