Twin Cities, Minnesota
Minneapolis and St. Paul, or the Twin Cities, are adjacent to one another along the northern end of the Mississippi River. Both have much to offer for sight-seers. Museum fans will love the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and the Weisman Art Museum, also famous for its architecture. Don’t miss the statue of actress Mary Tyler Moore in downtown Minneapolis. Also, there’s an active nightlife in the Twin Cities. From brew pups to comedy clubs to theatres, you’ll find plenty to do after sunset!
Chicago, Illinois
Chicago is famous for its museums, music, and culture, but it’s also a city that loves nature. The 22 miles bordering Lake Michigan are all open space, consisting of premier parks, boat harbours, and beaches. Walk, run, or ride a bike over the 18-mile Lakefront Trail and take in unspoiled views of the lake and the famous Chicago skyline. Book a boat tour at Navy Pier, where you’ll also find shopping, dining, and amusements. Venture a short distance away from the city to Starved Rock State Park, which features camping, hiking, and river cruises. Plus, cities like South Bend, Indiana are a relatively short driving distance to Chicago. There, you can tour the University of Notre Dame or visit the Potawatomi Zoo.
St. Louis, Missouri
From the top of the Gateway Arch, you can see all of St. Louis, including Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Explore the museum at the base of the Arch and learn about this historic city. There are many other attractions, including a world-class free zoo, museums, and entertainment venues. Tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and see the famous Clydesdales at Warm Springs Ranch. A couple of hours’ drive from St. Louis is Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain. Tour the house and take a paddleboat ride on the Mississippi. And don’t forget to see the Mark Twain cave!
