Going on Holiday? What to Do with Your Dog?

Travelling Dog

Whatever your situation, booking and planning your long-awaited holiday will no doubt fill you with joy. However, as you’re packing, you may notice that your pet is staring at you wondering what you are doing. Then you realise that you have not planned everything for your trip. What about your four-legged friend? You may be stumped on what to do with them. Keep reading to learn what you can do with your dog when going on holiday.

Kennel

In many cases when it comes to travelling, pets may have to go to a kennel while you are away. Kennels are basically daycares for pets. According to Luxe Pet Hotels, you can have them stay for both long and short periods of time depending on the length of your trip. This could be just for a day or for a few weeks, sometimes longer. However, there’s more to using a kennel than simply dropping off your pet and leaving. You need to be precise in your search for one. Unfortunately, not every kennel is great. In fact, some of them can be quite traumatising for dogs. When searching for a kennel, make sure to look at multiple ones, get references, look at the reviews and even drop by for a walkaround. Only go with a kennel that you know will take care of your furry friend.

Find a Pet-Sitter

Maybe finding a kennel is a bit too much to deal with or you don’t trust them. Either way, you still need to find someone to watch your dog before you go travelling. If kennels put you on edge, then finding a pet-sitter may be the way to go. The best part is that you don’t have to rely on a complete stranger to take care of your pet. A pet-sitter can be anyone such as a close friend, a family member or even your neighbour. There are of course professional pet-sitters available such as Rover but as with kennels do your research first to find the right fit for you and your dog.

Take Them With You

If push comes to shove and you don’t want to leave your dog behind, simply take them with you. If you are able to of course. Pack a bag for them that includes food, their favourite toy and treats. Those who are unfamiliar with travelling may think that taking a dog with you is a bad idea. As SpiritDog Training says, every dog has the potential to be a well-behaved, skilled and obedient companion, so with a little bit of training of basic commands, your dog should be well-behaved as you travel.
