A visit to Niagara Falls is on a lot of people’s bucket list, which isn’t surprising. This part of the world is special. The waterfalls are spectacular, unlike anything you have experienced before. Plus, there are lots of other things to see and do in the area. But, visiting is not cheap. Therefore, you want to be sure to make the most of your trip, which is why we have put together this post. Here are five things you can do which will enable you to make the most of your visit to Niagara Falls.
Treat Yourself to a View of the Waterfalls From Your Hotel Room
Hotels like the Marriott On The Falls offer guests the chance to stay in a room with a panoramic view of the Niagara Falls. Our advice is to treat yourself to at least one night in a Fallsview room. It will make your trip that bit more special. It’s important to remember these rooms fill up fast, so bear this in mind this when picking your travel dates and try to book as far in advance as possible.
Visit Both Sides of Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls straddles both the Canadian/American border. The Canadian Falls are the ones you usually see in the photos. They are even more stunning when you see them in reality.
On the Canadian side, the waterfalls are within easy walking distance of a big community. There are lots of shops, restaurants, hotels and other attractions very nearby.
The American side is located in a State Park. So, the area surrounding that side of the Niagara Falls is much closer to its natural state. It would be a shame to miss the chance to walk along the cliff-side along the full length of the Falls.
Embrace The Kitsch
For nearly 150 years the area around the waterfalls has been a tourist destination. From the very start, local people found ways to entertain their visitors and get them to spend a little of their cash. So, there is a long tradition of weird and wonderful attractions. Quite a few of them may seem a bit kitschy. But, don’t let that put you off. A visit to the Believe It or Not! museum, the Canadian Midway or the waxworks is actually great fun.
Take a Break from The Crowds
Schedule a day or two to get away from the crowds. You will return refreshed and ready to enjoy more of the attractions, hikes and sights that are close to the waterfalls. This article makes a few suggestions.
Pack Your Rain Gear
When you visit the waterfalls you are going to get wet. To experience the full power and majesty of the waterfalls you need to get close to all of that pounding water. For example, go on the walkway during the Behind the Falls tour or take one of the boat trips. When you do get close, you are going to get covered in cold spray. Ponchos are provided, but you can’t beat proper wet weather gear for keeping you dry.
Our last tip is to plan and book ahead. Doing this ensures you will not miss anything. Or worse, arrive at an attraction you really want to experience only to find that the queue to get in is crazy long.
