Having visited a number of the Costa’s in Spain we are both in agreement that our favourite is Costa Blanca. Having visited at least half a dozen times we have had the chance to explore the Costa and find some of, if not, the top things to do in the area. Costa Blanca is in a great location on the southeastern coast of Spain, especially if you are travelling overland from elsewhere in Europe. A number of budget airlines also fly directly from the UK to Alicante, Costa Blanca’s airport, often at great low-cost prices. Therefore, we have put together a list of 5 ways to ensure you have a great holiday on the Costa Blanca. We hope it will help you when planning your visit.
Choose The Perfect Place & Accommodation
Deciding where you want to stay on the Costa Blanca is the first decision you need to make. Maybe you want the hustle and bustle that Alicante offers, the nightlife Benidorm is famous for or maybe the picturesque harbour and promenade of Altea is more your cup of tea? Or maybe you are looking for that location that has that certain something extra? If you are, then it has to be Javea, which is one of, if not, the most exclusive towns on the Costa Blanca, with a number of celebrities living in the area. Eat Great Food
We love Spanish food and even though I love cooking and think that I am quite good at it, I can never recreate it at home. There is only one place that Spanish food is perfect and that is in Spain. Having eaten paella all over Spain, it was a tough job but someone had to do it, the best we found was in the back streets of Alicante. Although Valencia, which is billed as the Paella capital of the country, has some pretty good offerings too. As Costa Blanca has a 120-mile Mediterranean coastline, seafood is also on many, if not all menus. So why not choose a romantic seafront restaurant, like Republic Restaurant in Dénia, and indulge in some locally caught prawns fried in olive oil, and seasoned with garlic?
Party The Night Away
Benidorm has long held the title on the Costa Blanca as being the place to head if you want to party the night away. Jam-packed with bars, nightclubs, pubs and shows it is easy to see why party animals flock to the city annually. Mr ESLT and I are no longer able to rock until dawn but if you are, The Square is the place to head. Of course, there are a number of quieter and more traditional bars in Benidorm if that is more your scene like it is ours. Costa Blanca also hosts a number of festivals every year including our personal favourite, Les Fogueres De Sant Joan which is held every June in Alicante. The city comes alive with medieval jousting, paper mache figures and fireworks. It really is fun and offers something for all the family.
Go Sightseeing
Costa Blanca is the perfect place to just kick back and relax. However, it is also the perfect place to explore as there is so much to see and not just in the major cities of Alicante, Benidorm and Valencia. The area is steeped in history and there are a number of sites you can visit to learn more about it. We love The Castle of Santa Bárbara which is situated on top of Mount Benacantil overlooking Alicante, the views are simply amazing. There are also many other castles dotted across the Costa Blanca including Castillo de Moraira, Castillo Fortaleza de Santa Pola and Castillo de Biar, all of which are beautiful and worth visiting. Costa Blanca is also home to numerous churches, together with natural parks and museums.
Hit The Beach
Costa Blanca directly translated means ‘White Coast’ and it certainly lives up to its name. With, as mentioned before 120 miles of coastline, the number of beaches the Costa Blanca boasts means you are spoilt for choice when deciding which one(s) to visit. Playa de Levante beach in Benidorm is a great one to choose as it has a lot of facilities which, means you can spend all day there. It is also a Blue Flag beach with crystal clear waters, seriously, what’s not to love? Javea’s main beach El Arenal is the place to head if snorkelling or diving is your thing as the marine life in the area is just something else. If you want an ‘all over tan’ then the number one nudist beach Cala Ambolo is the place to head, even though it is a mix of shingle and pebbles.
