This week’s guest interview is with Claire, travel blogger behind Stoked To Travel. She explains ‘It would be fair to say I my true passion is travel, exploring and adventure – 54 countries and counting. Every last penny I earn and save goes on fulfilling my travel dreams! Little seems to phase me on my travels, and actually, the further I am out of my comfort zone, the better..! It was my first summer of backpacking at 18 that got me absolutely hooked. It started with an eventful road trip to Southern Spain and to Benicassim festival. Followed by a totally unplanned journey through Thailand, Laos and Burma. This was followed by a stint working at Disneyland Paris (don’t ask)!’
1. What is your name and where do you come from?
Claire and from London, UK
2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?
I work full time in London, so nowadays I am a part-time traveller – but fortunately, I work in travel PR so travel is on my mind 24/7!
I’m also lucky to have taken a gap year, a semester abroad and a year abroad during uni and have flexible annual leave so that’s how I have managed to visit so many places!
3. How do you fund your travelling?
A mixture of savings and earnings! Some elements of my trips are hosted but for the most part, I follow my own itinerary and stay in the places I want to!
4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?
Hawaii for unimaginable beauty and totally chilled vibes. The beautiful Philippines islands are always magical to visit and Australia for the best year of my life!! It was my year abroad and I blew every last penny on having the most out of this world time – I wasn’t blogging at the time and I think I enjoyed myself even more without having that pressure! Also Turkey for being such a friendly, interesting and welcoming country to explore as a solo traveller!
5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?
I found Dublin terribly dull and Guangzhou, China where we found the locals to be so unfriendly and unkind.
6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?
South Africa (and fortunately I am finally visiting in December this year!), Peru to go to Macchu Picchu and the Pacific Islands because I love paradise beaches and crystal clear water!
7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?
Hmm, I always like to travel with a silk sleeping bag, an eye mask and a travel pillow because you can’t underestimate the power of good sleep!
8. What makes you happy and why?
Cliché of course, but travel planning will always cheer me up no end! I love every second of the adventure, from the airport, the plane, the arrival in a new place and my first few hours out exploring are always so exciting 🙂
9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
I started at the very end of 2016 and it was a passion for sharing my love of travel and adventure, as well as finding a way to answer the endless questions I always received in one place.
10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?
While I do my best to take great photos, honestly, I do my best to write detailed, factual, useful and accurate travel guides. I write about the high and the lows. I write about the things that go wrong and share my advice on how to do it better. I like to think my content is aspirational but also totally useful.
From ESLT – thank you, Claire, for taking the time to answer our questions. Safe Travels ?
