Guest Interview – Off She Goes

Guest Interview – Off She Goes

This week’s guest post comes from Ina, travel blogger behind Off She Goes. She explains ‘I’ve always loved traveling and am constantly planning my next trip. My record has been 18 countries in a year, and I’ve now been to 42 in total. Aside from travelling, I have a passion for food and you’ll find me at all the latest pop-ups, street food markets, or restaurant openings. I am also a freelance writer and create compelling content in a snap to a targeted audience. My work has been featured in various online and offline global publications. Keeping still has never been my forté, and I have loads of stories to tell’
1. What is your name and where do you come from?

My name is Ina. I was born and raised in the Philippines, moved to Barcelona to do my Masters in Marketing Management, then I booked a one-way ticket to London where I’ve been living and working for the past 4 years.

2. What sort of traveller are you? Full time / part time / business / backpacker etc?

I’m both a part-time and business traveller. I’m fortunate that a big part of my job involves traveling for events around the world. I always make sure to try to squeeze in some time to take in the local city even when most of those trips see me inside a conference centre. Both my family and my boyfriend enjoy traveling, so I always use up all of my work holidays discovering new places or going away to a cottage somewhere in the UK to just relax.

3. How do you fund your travelling?

I fund my travelling via my own salary. I always say that spending money on food and travel is what makes me the happiest, so I make it a point to put aside enough money to make this happen.

4. Where is the best place you have ever been and why?

Last year, I spent New Year’s Eve in the middle of the bush in South Africa. It was an incredible trip where we went to Soweto in Johannesburg and visited the Apartheid Museum, then we stayed at two different safari lodges and saw all of the big 5, then capped things off in beautiful Capetown.

5. Where is the worst place you have ever been and why?

That’s a difficult one, but the one place that comes to mind is probably Malacca, Malaysia. There wasn’t much to do there and the food choices (something that’s very important to me) were not extraordinary.

6. Do you have a Bucket List? If so where are the 3 top places on it?

Definitely. My top 3 right now are Morocco, New Zealand, and Cuba.

7. What 3 things (apart from the essentials – food/water etc) do you always travel with?

I always travel with my BauBax travel jacket, my iPhone, and a thick pair of socks in case I get cold on the plane or the hotel room.

8. What makes you happy and why?

Food, travel, and going on new adventure with my friends and family. I believe that experiences lift your spirit and bring you true happiness, and being able to open up your world to new adventures helps you see the entire world differently.

9. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

I started blogging back when I was in highschool when everyone had a LiveJournal. After that, in 2009 I moved to Tumblr where I first started blogging about my travels. I ended up with a bit of a following at over 3,500 subscribers, which was quite large back in the pre-Instagram days. I used it as a way to share my travel and life experiences with my followers, and it also became a means to remind myself of all the cool restaurants, cities, and attractions I had visited over the years. I started my current blog Off She Goes late last year as a way to get back into writing and keeping a diary of my recent trips.

10. What makes your blog unique and why should people read it?

My blog has a really approachable style with lots of beautiful photos. One thing that sets it apart is that I provide lots of links and information on the exact tours I go on, restaurants I eat in, hotels I stay at, and activities I decide to do in those locations, along with my unbiased opinion of them all. Because I travel for both work and pleasure, the places I visit are really varied and so far I’ve covered all continents except for Antarctica (on my list!).

From ESLT – thank you Ina for taking the time to answer our questions. Safe Travels 🙂
