Australia is an exceedingly popular destination, and partly due to the sheer size of the country, is full various activities for the curious traveller to try and enjoy. With so much to see and do, it can be easy to feel a little overwhelmed while trying to plan your trip. To make things a little easier for you, here’s a list of some of the best activities to try in Australia.
Learn to Surf
Surfing is an item on countless traveller’s bucket lists, and seen as Australia ranks just below Hawaii for the title of surfing capital of the world, why not get your first taste here? You’ll be surrounded on all sides by incredible surfing spots, and the country has a range of different ways to learn. Whether you want to rent a board, run towards the waves and see what happens or go to an established surfing instructor, it’s entirely up to you. Just don’t go too far out and tempt the great whites! Whatever your experience, you’re sure to have heaps of fun.
If you’re an avid fisher in your home country, or you just want to try your hand at it, this is an experience you really don’t want to miss out on when you’re in Oz. Marlins, Australian flatheads, Barramundi and more are all popular species for fishing and considering Australia’s famous climate, you’ve got a fair chance of getting some great weather for fishing during your trip. As long as you’re somewhere coastal, you’ll have no problem finding a good charter fishing company that will take you to the best spots, and talk you through the nuances of Australian fishing. You may even see a whale or two!
Soak Up Sydney
Australia has a lot of diverse and intriguing settlements, but if you check out just one, make sure it’s Sydney, New South Wales. Here, you’ll get to take a selfie in front of the iconic opera house, relax on the gorgeous nearby beaches, go on a hiking excursion in the blue mountains, and get up-close and personal with some incredible marine life in the Sea Life Aquarium. At the end of the day, you can head downtown and check out some amazing venues, clubs and bars. Whatever you want out of a trip to a city, Sydney has it all!
Scuba Dive the Great Barrier Reef
If you’ve been snorkelling before and think that scuba diving is more of the same, then you’ve got a lot to learn! Scuba diving is an experience like no other, especially when you’re doing it in the great barrier reef. The reef, especially from the view of a scuba diver, is one of the most magical places on earth. It’s teaming with multi-coloured coral and beautiful fish, all of which will be used to the presence of people in scuba gear. If you’re lucky, you may even see a sea turtle in its natural habitat.
