Australia: DAY 1/3 – Great Ocean Road, Victoria (Torquay – Lorne)

Driving the Great Ocean Road, Australia in a 1970’s VW campervan had always been on my bucket list. Well …..in September 2014 I was lucky enough to be able to cross it off my list! As soon as we had booked the international flights from the UK to Australia I started researching VW campervans (kombis) in and around Melbourne so we could take our trip. We, therefore, hired the fantastic GRACIE!

Australia: St. Kilda

Before our trip to Australia, a number of friends had recommended taking a day to visit St Kilda and I’m sure glad we did. St Kilda is a suburb of Melbourne approximately 6km from the City Centre. We took a tram from the Southbank down to St Kilda which only took about 20 minutes. Getting a tram was easy – just remember to buy your Myki from a Myki machine which is available at a number of stops and shops – it’s similar to London’s Oyster Card but in Melbourne you can also use them on buses and trains which means you…

Australia: Little Penguin Parade Evening Tour, Phillip Island

I love animals and I  love animals in the wild even more so when I saw that going to see wild penguins in their natural habitat was an option whilst visiting Melbourne I jumped at the chance. I booked 2 tickets for this attraction through Viator for £95.18 (which included a 50% discount). The little penguins are the smallest species of penguin in the world growing on average to 33cm (13inches) in height and the largest colony in the world, approximately 32,000 live on Phillip Island.

Australia: Eureka Skydeck 88, Melbourne

The Eureka Skydeck 88 is located on the Southbank of Melbourne one block back from the Yarra River. It is located on Riverside Quay next to the Travelodge hotel and a 2-minute walk from the Langham. It is the tallest building in Melbourne (2.97.3 metres) therefore one of the first you will see jutting from the impressive skyline as you enter the city by road. The observation deck takes up the whole of the 88th floor of the sky scrapper with floor to ceiling windows allowing for a 360-degree view of Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs. It is the highest public vantage point in a building in…

Australia: Magnificent Melbourne!

Melbourne, Melbourne, Melbourne – where to start? After travelling for 30 odd hours from Beverley, East Yorkshire to the other side of the world I wanted…… I needed to be greeted by something amazing, bordering on magical and Melbourne did not disappoint. We went mid-September and knew we were taking a gamble with the weather we may encounter. Unfortunately, the weather gods were not on our side for the first few days of our holiday and we faced Baltic 6 degree conditions. This completely made a mockery of the backpack of summer clothes I’d lugged over 10,000 miles.
