In between sightseeing we love nothing more than hitting the beach (or pool), if there is one of course. We loved our trip to Dubai earlier this year, as we were able to have a great combination of both. One day seeing what the city had to offer, the next crashing out on either the beach or by the pool. As we were there for a week we felt our relaxation days were necessary otherwise I think we would have burnt ourselves out. After a few subsequent city breaks we are excited for our next sightseeing AND relaxation break when we hit Malta in October. Here’s our list of Summer Beach Essentials that we will be packing in our suitcase – yes, actual suitcase, not just a carry one!
Probably the most essential of the essential, I mean come on no one want to be on the beach in their jeans and jumper. Plus you’d look pretty crazy wading in the sea! I love a strapless one piece swimming costume, perfect in order to avoid tan lines! Mr ESLT is usually quite adventurous in this swim wear choice his favourite at the moment being this funky Hugo Boss swim shorts.
Sand can be hot, fact. Therefore, we always head to the beach with our Lifeventure Softfibre Towels*. They are soft and lightweight and fold down to a great size and come complete with handy carry case which can be carried in your bag or tied to it. The fact that they absorb up to 9 times their weight means they are great for drying yourself off after a dip in the sea/pool.
After burning our feet on scorching sand/concrete on more than one occasion we’ve found that a pair of flip flops are essential for us when visiting the beach or pool area. These flip flops from CV22* are also great for protecting your feet from any nasty creatures that might live in the sand and fancy snacking on your foot! Lightweight, comfortable and waterproof – a must have.
I love my Hershall rucksack which was a birthday present from the in laws (purchased from ASOS). It’s the perfect size to carry all the summer essentials we need down to the beach or pool with us. I also love its nautical colours and the fact that it is unisex meaning Mr ESLT and I can share the wearing of it. The padded shoulder straps make it very comfortable even when it’s full.
I have extremely light sensitive eyes and need a pair of sunglasses with very dark lenses. Therefore, I love our Dewerstone sunglasses*. They are made of wood and so lightweight I often forget that I am wearing them. Of course no one wants the panda look but it is important to protect our eyes evening when they are closed. Also great in the sea/pool as they float if you drop them.
I’m not great at just doing nothing. I find it hard to simply switch off so I always have my Kindle with me, especially when chilling out on the beach or at the pool. To be honest I very rarely have the opportunity to read in between working, blogging and being an adult so I really love the opportunity to read a full book in one go without feeling guilty about not doing the ironing.
Photography for us is essential even when on a beach break. Therefore it is important that we carry the necessary technology with us. A Go Pro in waterproof is ideal, however can be costly. If out of your budget there are a number of waterproof cameras on the market which will allow you to capture the moments at the pool or beach without having to worry about it getting wet.
If you are round the pool or on the beach the likelihood is, it’s hot. Therefore, it is essential that you keep hydrated. Water is of course the ideal drink with many beaches having water taps where you can refill your bottle. Water doesn’t really get the taste buds dancing however this Bobblebottle Infuse* is great – simply place fruit in it and it jazz’s your water up!
I love to listen to music wherever I am so being able to listen to it at the beach or at the pool is vital for me too. Obviously, I don’t want to disturb or upset my fellow beachgoers as I’m sure we are all there to relax. However, if we have enough space around us or a private villa like we did in Bali last year than out comes the iPod and waterproof speaker and on come the tunes!
If you are heading to the beach or pool the likelihood is that the weather is pretty good therefore it’s important to remember we need to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, even if overcast. I ALWAYS use a factor 50, especially on my face, I don’t want to encourage even more wrinkles! I’ve been using Ladival* recently and find it very absorbent and non-greasy.
If you must take valuables to the beach or the pool then we think a handy travel safe is just what you need to protect your stuff from thieves. With a combination lock and thick wire, simply pop your things inside, lock it and then fasten it around your sun lounger to parasol. We try to take as few valuables as possible like this handy safe as a deterrent.
- Gifted items, however we would not recommend them if we didn’t use them ourselves!
