If you have read my post Parmontley Hall County Lodges you will know I love weekends away in a lodge with a hot tub. I usually have 3 or 4 of these weekends a year either with my husband or with friends, this time it was with both. We met a wonderful couple in Boa Vista, Cape Verde back in 2012 and have met up back in England on a regular basis. With one of their 30th birthdays coming up my husband and I booked a weekend away at Ashby Woulds Lodges as a treat and so we could celebrate with them.
We booked via Hoseasons and took advantage of their low deposit offer (£25) with the remainder of the cost to be paid in full 12 weeks prior to your break. They run this offer quite often so keep your eyes peeled.
Having been to many cabins throughout the county more often than not they are secluded and quite difficult to find (even with a SatNav). Ashby Woulds Lodges on the other hand are located on a road, no country lane in sight. The site is easy to find with a lovely big sign to welcome you. Not only is the sign welcoming but so are the staff. I completed a registration form giving basic details and handed over (well swiped my card for pre-authorisation) £150 breakages deposit to be refunded after our stay should we not break anything. Even though this is the first time I have ever been asked to do it didn’t bother me too much as I know we are not clumsy or destructive people. But please remember if you stay here you will be asked to do the same.
Even though the site is on a road, with houses close by, the second that the keypad operated gate (great security) closes behind you, you could be in the middle of nowhere. The site is still being built on, we saw workmen and noise was kept down to a minimum – they did not disturb us at all. The lodge we booked (Oak Delux 4) was overlooking the canal and fields which gave us beautiful views from the hot tub…………oh how I miss the hot tub!
The lodge itself is beautiful with all mod cons including dishwasher and washing machine. Ours had 2 bedrooms, one master with en suite and one twin. I did call Hoseasons prior to our visit to ask for the twin beds to be linked to form a double as it states can be done on their website. Obviously the message did not get passed on as when we arrived it was still set up as a twin – not to worry – we soon sorted that out and pushed them together ourselves. The lovely open plan kitchen, dining and living room is a very social space, ideal for families or friends to hang out in. The boys loved it as the TV had Sky Sports which meant they could chill out watching football and it was only a couple of feet to th fridge for another beer.
With the boys being boys my friend and I decided to indulge in some girl time and both booked treatments with the lovely Sarah, the on site spa therapist. We both opted for the insanely relaxing Hot Stone Massage (£35). I’d never had one before and O…M…G I can’t believe what I have been missing out on all these years. Highly recommended although I’m sure all Sarah’s treatments are fantastic. If you do fancy a treatment you need to get booked in as soon as you get there as she gets booked up quickly.
Because our weekend was for catching up and relaxing we didn’t venture far so unfortunately didn’t see much of what the surrounding area has to offer. We did however get a taxi to the local town of Burton (£18 round trip, although our taxi driver did get lost on the way back!) to be honest there isn’t that much to do there and your time may be better spent elsewhere or even in the hot tub. Even with the fully functional kitchen we decided on our second night to get a take away – details provided in the welcome pack, which was delivered straight to our door.
Great lodges + beautiful site + friendly staff = FANTASTIC WEEKEND!
